After I upgraded to 14, why does this happen: A over B split on line?

andrew-shaw wrote on 12/15/2017, 8:48 AM

I upgraded from a previous version, earlier version, which has caused some startling adjustments on my part to the changes made in the simplest areas. In fact I think they made it more complicated when they think they are improving it. Anyway.

In the video track instead of one video strip per usual, it has doubled with an A over B format with a crossfade symbol between them? Why did this happen?

How can I get rid of the B and keep the A; I notice that this impedes on placing additional video foot age on the A because it throws it onto B automatically?

ALSO.... sometimes I click on a track and there is this red-bar that appears on the front lip or end of the track which apparently overtakes the video preview which only shows the footage on that strip irregardless of where I place the line on my project.

When I double click on the red parenthetical bar on the front end it disappears and then I can see the preview of my project, but it also deletes other lines of a chunk of my project. Frustrating.

What happend to the idea of working or editing on one line throughout the entire duration of the project without it splitting up automatically? Or, did I do this without knowing I did this>

Thank you ahead of time.

Too funny! Just hit ESC and stop double clicking the edit points. Expanded edit works great if/when you need it.

The red bar indicates you are not on a frame boundary. Make sure you have QUANTIZE to FRAMES enabled.

Kinvermark wrote on 12/15/2017, 3:22 PM

Isn't "Quantize to frame" enabled by default? How is it that so many users seem to have this turned off?

For the OP on the Expanded Edit mode, quoted from the Help files:

"Select the event you want to edit. Perform any of the following actions to enter expanded edit mode: Choose Edit > Select > Enter Expanded Edit Mode / Press 5 on the numeric keypad / Double-click the event edge.

In expanded edit mode, a red bracket is displayed to indicate which event edge will be trimmed, and the track is displayed in an A/B roll: events before the edit point are displayed in the A roll and subsequent events are displayed on the B roll. Additional frames available for editing are shown on the other side of the edit point.

The Video Preview window displays a split-screen preview so you can monitor frames on both sides of the edit point."

Not always. I don't know what the default is.

Thanks everyone! I have yet, at this moment, to make the changes to the settings to get it to revert BACK to the default view - been stuck in meetings. However herein lies the real question: speaking of 'reverting back' and 'default'; "how is it that so many users seem to have this turned on?". Bingo! Exactly. In other words, just how did this come about?

Did I accidentally command this to happen or does it default to this view as a new 'improved' feature by the software complicators, *cough sorry, I meant developers?

Accidently.

vkmast wrote on 12/15/2017, 5:39 PM

As the Help files say, there are three ways to get to Expanded Edit. Most likely you inadvertently double-clicked an event edge. You're not the first one to make this happen. This came first with VPro 12.

andrew-shaw wrote on 12/16/2017, 9:26 AM

Yes, the consesus is *drumroll please, 'ba-boom-cha', I accidentally did this. Yes, I must've double-clicked and triggered the expanded view. Oh, to think that I might've 'double-clicked' on something, like that never happens ;) Yea right. haha. It's like I'm clicking on eggshells heere *new york accent. Well, I shouldn't be quick to berate it, not until I know exactly how the 'expanded view' works or why would it come in handy when it's needed. Kidding aside, I like the look of V.14, the interface is larger and more easily navigatible. Plus, all the New Blue plugins and effects, definitely a deeper set of tools provided than previous (upgrading from v.8, yea I know).

Thanks y'all, I'll definitely be posting again, I have other questions on deck, one of which is to do with the area of 'properties settings versus render settings'. I've got old projects that were shot on tape mini-digital at 720 x (forgot) but can I render that to 1080P? Along with which sizing would be most conducive for uploading to Vimeo.

Andrew, suggest you start a new post for this. It will probably get noticed more. Also do a search on the forum as the question has cropped up before.
