Bitrate issue

When I render my projects using nvenc i get video with different bitrate from the one I put in. But when i render in Mainconcept AVC everything is fine. This issue is present on my pc that has i3 9100f and gtx 1650 super but on my laptop that has i7-10870 and gtx1650 bitrate is fine in both mods. I installed the latest studio drivers for the gpu yet it didn't help. Always rendering on my laptop is not an option and I will use Mainconcept AVC only if won't find a way to resolve the problem.

NVENC uses a CQ (Constant Quantizer) algorithm to render. It works with the decoded bits it sees, not the compressed source bitrate. Note that machine encoders (NVENC, QSV, AMD) need about twice the output bitrate of software Magix AVC in order to achieve the same quality. Machine encoders are fast, big, and dirty; software encoders are slow, small, and clean.

(I don't believe your old PC meets the minimum system requirements for Vegas or hardware encoding).

From a CPU point-of-view, your laptop with an i7-10870 well meets the minimum recommended specs for Vegas Pro 18 and 19: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/specifications/#productMenu

But an i3 CPU is below minimum specs for either HD or 4K, so this 'may' be contributing to the render problem with NVENC.

For quality at a given bitrate, Mainconcept is a great way to go.

What settings exactly are you using for NVENC? Can you share a screenshot? Also your card is well above minimums of 9XX for Vegas so it should work fine.

In the NVENC rendertemplate you can customize the bitrate at 3 places, look



Mainconcept is a pretty old and slow render possibility.

Mainconcept is definitely slow, but also definitely the best option when quality AND efficient bitrate are desired. Even accepting the bloated bitrate, I still find hardware encoding to be of inferior quality when it comes to complex scenes or long fades, etc.

It is, however, great for streaming or quick previews. But for final delivery and archival, I’ll take the time to do it right.

@totallly-h Sounds like something's out of whack with your 1650 super. Suggest starting with a graphics driver clean-out using the free DDU utility... I think it's a little more thorough than just checking the box to "perform a clean installation" in the Nvidia custom installation screen but you could try that 1st. Reinstall after running DDU should also pull down the latest Nvidia Control Panel from the Microsoft Store. If that doesn't fix things, could be the gpu-bios needs an update... a number of manufacturers have updated versions for their implementations available on TechPowerUp.
