Blank Renders - Trial Version

Gary-Vrckovnik wrote on 4/30/2020, 4:40 PM

Hello,

I've just installed the Trial version of Vegas Pro 17. I've got a simple 2 min video (capture from an DV camera) and am trying to render. The video plays and sounds fine in the preview window. Regardless of which template I use from the Render As menu, the resultant file is a 2 min clip of black screen and no video. I see a small Vegas Pro watermark but that is it.

Does the trial not allow you to render a sample? I started with a 10 min clip and got an error that the trial only allows rendering of 2 min samples so I cut it down to just under 2 min ... yet it's clearly not working.

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated!!

Thanks,

Gary

Is the sound rendering? Try selecting a less than two minute segment and choose "Render loop region only" in the "Render Options" menu,

Was the length of your total project less than two minutes when you tried?

The total project was 10 minutes …. When I hit Render As I got a message popping up that the trial version will only render 2 minutes or less. Thus I cut out 8 minutes. My current project length is 1:56;02 and I no longer get the message so I can move on to selecting a template and trying to render but everything is black and there is no sound.

Sorry I forgot to mention that "Render loop region only" is selected as suggested by rraud.

@Gary-Vrckovnik did you read the linked comment from VEGASDerek?

Gary-Vrckovnik wrote on 4/30/2020, 5:57 PM

Yes I did read that comment and my entire project is less than 2 minutes.

Things are now working … I quit Vegas, restarted, opened a new project, repeated the exact same things I did previously (ie loaded the same video, trimmed it to less than 2 minutes and Rendered) and now everything is working fine .... odd but at least it works now!

Thank you for everyone's help and time!!

It's possible that an unused track got soloed, or a used video track got muted, and maybe you didn't notice.

I'll admit, the fact the project has to be less than 2 minutes was a mistake. The limit should be less than or equal to 2 minutes. I'll have this corrected for VP 18.

It would be nice if you'd change that to "the rendered region must be <= 2 minutes" It would let people trial working with large projects but limit them to rendering <= 2 min worth

That would be a great idea!

In the end however as I was able to get things working, I've decided to pull the trigger and purchase Vegas Pro 17. So clearly the marketing theory works - the trial version was successful in capturing a purchase :)

Looking forward to getting lots of use out of my new toy!
