Boris FX Primatte Studio 2021 + Continuum 2022

Michael-Peach wrote on 5/19/2022, 10:51 AM

I've recently upgraded to Vegas Post 19, which came with a license for Boris FX Primatte Studio v2021.5

I've also bought the Movie Expansion pack, which comes with 3 Boris Fx Continuum v2022 units.

Is there any way I can actually use all of these together? It seems that if I install and activate my Boris Fx v2022 units then there's no way of using the version of Primatte Studio that I have?

Yeah, that's their trap. Congratulations, you got it.

You might want to contact https://borisfx.com/store/contact-us/ to find out if they'd make you a feasible upgrade offer.

The issue discussed e.g. here.

@Michael-Peach that's one reason I went for Continuum Complete. You can't mix and match different versions of Borisl unless they are from the same year.

The advantage for going Continuum Complete. No more problem, and way way more plugins. And the cost of upgrading during their sales (Black Friday is always big) is unbeatable.

A few years ago, I contacted Boris sales with the same dilemma that you had. They offered me Continuum Complete at a price I could not pass up. Especially considering what is included with it. Wow!

@Reyfox On what date and in what steps you get the discount. Can you share some tips with us?

@xcxz-a Black Fri deals might be better or the same , dunno,, but i spoke to the man in the little chat window bottom right of the website, I asked for the 'best deal' & got at least 25% off all that I bought, I've got the full suite plugins + standalone versions, but i bought them all separately with separate licences/activation codes for each, that way i only have to upgrade one at a time to get the latest version, otherwise i think i would have to upgrade the full suite.

@Former user No.

They offered me Continuum Complete at a price I could not pass up.

I think it might be $59 or $79 or something like that. That's much better than a 25% discount.

@Michael-Peach  ... Just adding to @Reyfox's comment, BorisFX have a FAQ on various issues with Continuum issues in Vegas Pro - https://borisfx.com/knowledgebase/vegas-pro-faq/

In particular, have a look at the 3rd last question:

Q. I love the Boris FX Continuum Units plugins for VEGAS Pro 19! Can I upgrade to the full suite?

Yes! VEGAS Pro 19 owners can upgrade to the full suite of Continuum plugins at the discounted price of $395.00. Please contact sales for more information.

$395 USD is over 40% off the full OFX new licence of $695 USD. And with the full BCC suite, you get 12 months of support and upgrades (including new versions) - which doesn't apply with BCC Units and Premium Filters.

And also the last question:

Q. Can I use older plugins inside my latest version of VEGAS Pro 19?

At this time, we only support the latest version of Continuum for VEGAS Pro 19. Customers who have upgraded and have older licenses of Boris Continuum plugins should contact sales for more information on upgrading.

@Dexcon Yeah $395 sounds about what i got it for, i can't find the emails

@xcxz-a I very much doubt you'd get Continuum Complete for $59 or $79, If you can good on ya 👍#

This is what i paid

xcxz-a wrote on 5/19/2022, 6:22 PM

@Former user @Dexcon

$395 is for users who don't have multi-version problems.

If you have a problem with multiple versions, like OP, the fault is not OP, but Boris FX.

So Boris may make amends by offering an even more irresistible price. For example,  $59, $79.

So I really want to ask @Reyfox for some tips:

BorisFX's answer does not stipulate that the $395 upgrade offer is restricted to Vegas Pro owners who don't have multi-version problems with BCC Units/Premium Filters. It reads that the offer is available to those who want to upgrade to the full suite.

The second FAQ covers those who have BCC Units from different versions and want to upgrade the older version/s.

@Dexcon I think if you cry to Boris, as a victim, they might offer a better price than $395.

Because after all it was Boris's fault, they shouldn't have sold 2022 to users when they could have 2021.5. At least provide a warning before selling.

Michael-Peach wrote on 5/20/2022, 3:10 AM

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

Most seem to suggest that paying more for an upgrade is the only solution. I'll speak with Boris but unless they offer me something incredible I can't really afford to spend hundreds more on something I only bought because it looked like a great deal in the first place.

My main issue with all of this is that this was all purchased in the same set of deals within a few days, and there wasn't anything to indicate that I'd be losing out on a license that was part of the same package. I blame Vegas for that, not Boris, because it was their (linked) deals that I went for. It's clearly a known problem, so I'd at least expect Vegas to make people aware that they've included a license for an old version of a Continuum unit in a current deal.

xcxz-a wrote on 5/20/2022, 3:23 AM

The root of the problem is that Boris FX is still selling units of the old Continuum. If they were selling 2022 but not old, users wouldn't have this problem. You should ask them to upgrade your primatte studio to 2022. You're a victim, so you have every right to claim it.

Reyfox wrote on 5/20/2022, 4:13 AM

If you have already installed and bought other Boris plugins, they will take that into account. I bought during Black Friday, and the cost for Continuum Complete was way less than 40%. As soon as I received the email, I bought. I have never looked back and now only buy Vegas Edit since I have everything I need. And the Black Friday price to upgrade Continuum complete after I bought it was $141.

I would email sales, tell them of your problem, and that these are the plugins you already have registered (yes?). Ask what can be done, and wait. They are in the States and weekends, no work, nor Stateside holidays, so be patience.

But the best price is usually Black Friday.
