Can't import AVI file

soefarer wrote on 4/23/2015, 10:31 AM
I have Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.0, and is trying to import AVI files converted from VOB-files from a DVD using "VOB to AVI" Converter (www.vobtoavi.co), but get the message that "An error occurred while opening one or more files - an error occurred while opening a codec". I have converted both to divx and H.264, but nothing works. The AVI files play without problems i Windows Media Player. What can I do?

Search MediaInfo on this forum and you get displaying matches. Click to read the second thread there.
Hint: Sender musicvid10.

Download and install the x264vfw codec from Sourceforge.
You "may" have to demux your audio and load it separately.
There., wasn't that easy?

Yeah, with a little help from your friends! Thanks! Now I can import the file and edit it, but strangely enough the picture is somehow distorted and with black glimpses, This applies also to the rendered, final file. Still, in WMP, the AVI plays seamlessly. What might be the matter?

I've heard that the divx-codec is the best in terms of picture quality, and would like to use that. My converter is also a lot faster converting to divx than to H264. Still I can't import divx, and can't easily find a divx-codec on sourcefourge. What can I do?
File information about the file, I would like to import:

Turn off GPU in Vegas.
musicvid10 wrote on 4/26/2015, 7:18 AM
Divx is not "better."
It downloads from its own site, not Sourceforge.
Be careful, there are plenty of fake sites.
soefarer wrote on 4/26/2015, 8:12 AM
How do I do that? I can't find anywhere in the Preferences that gives me the opportunity to turn GPU on or off.

I just found a wonderful feature: "Import DVD Camcorder Disc". It sucks all off the DVD content into one, beatiful file, ready to edit, with one click! Amazing!
This solves my problem for now, but I would still like to be able to convert the other way around, since commercial DVDs aren't importable that way.

And if anyone can tell me how to turn GPU off, I'll be happy.

Thank you a lot, musicvid10 and vkmast!

More reading for the OP here. It's from the Pro forum, but valid here as well. Lots of related threads on both forums.

>>>I can't find anywhere in the Preferences that gives me the opportunity to turn GPU on or off.<<<
MSPlatinum 12 was the first MStudio version to have that option in Prefs.

I didn't know that, sorry for assuming.
