Why does Vegas STILL need QuickTime? Every NLE is dropping that requirement. Even PowerDirector [15, from 2 years ago] will load iPhone H.264 and HEVC MOV files while VEGAS will complain that it needs QuickTime for the H.264 MOV files. Resolve, Avid, etc... NLEs are all implementing native support for these files and dropping the QuickTime requirement.
When will they get around to "fixing" this.
It's also interesting that an LG phone is using a flavor of H.264 that would require QT, and only in Pro Mode.
Vegas Pro 15/16 doesn't need Quicktime if not a special codec is used inside. I haven't heard of a H.264 Quicktime version which would need Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (while same is true for Quicktime MPEG-2). Could you offer a download link to a sample file?
Along similar lines, I think, to the problem with MP4 files, I'm having this problem. I posted it in the audio section on this forum, but got no response.
MP3 files are not playing in SVP16 (trial version) on time line. Also, clicking on them in project media does not make them show up in the trimmer, even though that feature is checked in preferences. Right clicking on an MP3 file does not allow "open in trimmer." That option is grayed out. All of the above do work with WAV files, however.
Actually, same thing happens with any MP3 file, Marco.I'd rather not post the actual file(s) because of copyright issues.
In the meantime, when I go to the same file in "Explorer" within MVP16, and I double click on the same file, it opens in the trimmer and actually plays! And on the timeline, it says "Media Offline." Hmmmm...curiouser and curiouser.
I play MP3s on so many devices without licensing. Hard to imagine. And if I recall correctly, I've never had that issue on any other trial versions of MVP. I always download the trial version before purchase. Anyone on here with paid version of MVP16 that can download an MP3 file to try on the timeline?

@Len Kaufman would FAQ item 10 codec activation requirements apply? Or trial limitations? (as david-tu suggested) Or a "different" mp3 file, may need a sample as Marco. said.?
@vkmast I tried rendering a VERY short piece of a project and got this message. " Rendering with trial versions of VEGAS Pro is limited to projects of less than 2 minutes in length. Please purchase VEGAS Pro for a full feature set." So I couldn't try your suggestion above FAQ Item 10.
@vkmast OK Problem solved, and you had the solution: FAQ Item 10. Though earlier (above) I was only trying to render about 20 seconds of an MP3 clip, it was on a timeline that was considerable longer. So I got the "2 minute warning." So I opened a new project and place a short MP3 clip on the timeline, rendered it, and VOILA! It worked. Thank you all.
Addendum: When I tried the above "fix" for the MP3 clip, I did so in another instance of VP16 (same machine). When I went back to the first instance of VP16, which was still open, the MP3 clips did not play again. So, even though both instances of MVP16 were opened from the same download, activating the MP3 thing was specific to the instance of VP16 that it was activated on. (I hope that makes sense to y'all.)

Any H.264 MOV file recorded with an iPhone (record "Most Compatible" and download Originals from iCloud.com).
We're well aware of the issues with iPhone video in NLEs (or at least, the issues many NLEs used to have)... I'm just wondering why they haven't solved an issue that most of the industry has solved 1-3 years ago?
QuickTime is not something I put on my Windows PCs, ever. This means that the only way to use iPhone footage (i.e. for Vlogging) is to record HEVC and then transcode all of it to ProRes... Without hardware decode support in the NLE, HEVC is not a viable editing format on the timeline.
This is a royal PITA, given the absolute lack of a usable transcoder in VEGAS Pro - just that batch render script that has you setting up regions for every single clip you need to transcode.
This is the reason why I never upgraded to VP15, so the statement that it doesn't need QT for this is 100% false.
FYI re mp3 audio files: funny part was I thought I had the same problem again as with VP15..which didn't even want to see the mp3 files (licensed downloads) in the explorer window unless you clicked 'display all'. I then went through my versions (14,15,16) with the same file, and whilst 14 was no prob, 15 and 16 seemed suss, with breakup, initially. However, since I played around with it, something must have 'fixed' something, and it now seems fine in 16. Hence I have [today] removed my original post with 'VP16 MP3 not working..' because I cannot reproduce ..
