Cannot Ungroup Audio and Video in Version 13

Steve_TWS wrote on 3/5/2015, 8:36 AM
Hello, I would like to separate the Audio from the Video tracks when bringing in to V13 so I can delete the audio track. In version 12 I would simply ungroup the two tracks and delete the audio track. In version 13, I cannot ungroup the Audio and Video tracks, it is not an option, it is greyed out. I have seen other posts of this problem on other forums, but I have not seen a solution. Someone suggested duplicating the video track only, then deleting the Video/Audio track but I can't get that to work either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Steve,
Config > Ignore event grouping?
Or in Trimmer, select Video only and drag it onto the timeline.
Does "Delete Track" not work, if you right-click on the track header or on an empty spot on the timeline?
Remember that Edit > Group options are grey, unless you highlight an event?
MSP 13 Advanced Mode.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. "Delete Track" does work. Previously, I must not have clicked on an open space on the timeline, but on an event, because it was deleting both video and audio. So this solves my issue, thank you

However, I still don't see "Ignore Event Group" working in MSP13. When I enable Ignore Event Group. I still can't seem to select only Audio or video.
Also, when I select both the video and audio, and then go to Edit > Group > Clear as well as Edit > Group > Remove , the group does not seem to ungroup.

BTW it works fine in Ver 12

Ignore Event Grouping works fine in my MSP 13 as well as Group/Ungroup.
Pls read the "Grouping Events" section in online Help. There may be an oversight in your workflow that I cannot pinpoint at the moment.

If you don't find anything, try to reset software.

edit:
testing this, these features started playing tricks on me as well and I needed to reset.

My son has MS13 (not Platinum or Pro) and I was surprised to find it has no Group/Ungroup menu (nor does U work), which seems to me so basic that even the entry prog should have it. Anyway, here's the workaround, if anyone needs it: Options/Preferences/Editing, uncheck "Cut, copy and delete grouped events" and Apply. Now you can delete video/audio separately, but you still can't move them separately until you: Cut, then re-paste the audio (or the video) only. Now, either video or audio can be moved separately. Yeesh -- it's a kludge, but not too bad.

kerumbo, you could also try this.

vkmast, thanks for the reply and the link. Unfortunately turning off Auto Ripple does not let me move the audio separately from the video, in 13 (basic). (I could delete the audio track, using Delete Track -- or mute it of course -- but that's not what I want.) Turning off Auto Ripple does let me move one clip on a track, without automatically moving everything on a track, which is a bit like one of the Ungroup functions, and is sometimes useful.

My solution was not turning off Auto Ripple. In the Project media window, right click a file, drag to the timeline, release, add video and audio separately to the timeline. See my screenshot in that thread.

Thanks Cornico, you beat me again 😎.

Thanks, Cornico and thanks again, vkmast! (I didn't at first get that your suggestion was to drag both Audio and Video to the timeline, but separately -- I mistakenly thought you were showing a way to omit the audio, so I was looking at another part of the linked page instead. My bad.) You're absolutely right -- that works a treat, takes no time, and without the potential disadvantage of changing the preferences for the whole timeline. Excellent! I've used Vegas for a while but am new to the light version that my son uses, which has its own challenges, and I appreciate the insight.
