Highlighting color comes from the color assignments made in project properties. If you leave this alone and don't alter it comes up with auto color assignments for the project to overall match the project theme.

BUT you can customize and experiment if you wish...just test everything you create on a burned disc played in a set-top player to arrive at your final choice.

Tim,
I use Color Sets, Custom, Specify colors (fill color).
"Fill color used for menu button highlights and subtitle text objects."
Select the color sets in the three button colors boxes in Menu Page Properties.

(I suppose you use colour)

Ahh right. I'd looked at the colour sets and made some changes but none of it made much sense. Thanks to your posts I persevered and now I've got the general idea. Many thanks.
(And yes, it's colour to me but DVDA doesn't understand that :) )
