Honestly I'm done with Sony software unless it actually works. This specific crash happened during rendering, but the same thing happens while doing basic editing. I know from unfortunate prior experience of Vegas crashing that at least one person likes MediaInfo So here:

Anyone who can figure this out, I salute you, it seems this program is riddled with bugs, and honestly I'm fed up with it.

Anything in this thread you can use?

I'm no expert but I found this as a start:

"Solved it! There was a problem with Quicktime so I uninstalled it and it worked fine."

Here: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/909150

Good luck figuring it out.

Carry on....
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/25/2013, 6:51 PM
Bitrates shouldn't have anything to do with it, besides, this happens while editing too.

I don't have Quicktime installed.

MSP12 has been out for a fair bit am I right? You think Sony would sort lots of the issues out... wait that would mean they are actually trying to improve their product. they would much rather make you pay for a newer version and get the same issues. Yup, Im a genius, just figured out Sony.
Markk655 wrote on 8/25/2013, 7:17 PM
First, MediaInfo is an excellent free way for people who like to help a way to see what the issue could be - not just for 1 helpful person @musicvid) There is no use coming here with an attitude. No one here is paid by Sony.

Nice system - mine is similar 3770k with an Asus mobo; Win 8-64bit. Vegas runs nicely.

"I don't have Quicktime installed." Any reason why not? According to the minimum specs, "Apple® QuickTime® 7.1.6 or later for reading and writing QuickTime files". It appears as though you are getting a crash when trying to render using MainConcept mp4.

One possible solution - try to install Quicktime.
A second possible solution was actually in the thread suggested by vkmast is try the Sony AVC profile for rendering. It can output to an mp4 as well.

iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/28/2013, 5:30 PM
"Bitrates shouldn't have anything to do with it, besides, this happens while editing too." Happens while editing too, it isn't strictly while rendering.

Uninstalled Quicktime because this thread posted by chula earlier said that could fix it: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/909150

Did same thing with it installed, but I guess I will reinstall it.

I'm getting pissed off because software that I paid $83 of my own money for doesn't work properly. Can't you understand?

Thanks for the compliment on my system though it isn't a monster by accident! ;)

Oh and Another issues, not as annoying though, is that when I go to render I check for GPU acceleration. It says OpenCL is available, as expected. I hit render. GPU sits at 0% usage while CPU is at 100%. Vegas! y u do dis?
Markk655 wrote on 8/28/2013, 7:21 PM
Most of us understand that software isn't perfect and that when it doesn't work the way it needs to, it is exceptionally frustrating. We get it.

Try reinstalling QT. I think if there are QT issues, the recommendation is to go back to 7.6 (please search the forum. MusicVid probably posted it.

As for the vid card, there are examples on the NVidia side that the newer cards don't seem to be fully supported. That may be the case with your Radeon card,. You may have to wait for that support. You can also try the new 64 bit build just released today.

iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/28/2013, 7:54 PM
Ok, installed QT 7.6... downloading the 1184 build...

Lets see if it works. Sort a disappointing that it doesn't support the new GPUs, not like they are super different from the ones a gen or 2 ago.. :|

Ok 1186 installed successfully, according to the installer lol. Just have to wait till tomorrow and give it a go. Thanks for letting me know about the update. ;)
Markk655 wrote on 8/28/2013, 8:03 PM
Not much has changed (just found the release notes after installing it). But, I wish you luck!
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/29/2013, 4:47 PM
Seems to work... I'll have a conclusive answer in a few weeks when I have something worth editing...
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/29/2013, 8:03 PM
HAH. As soon as you think, think is the key word, I haven't been able to test it, I am having problems importing media, I use control to select a few files and I can't even select the second before it freezes. Depressing the most seemingly simple things in this programs are broken.

Never mind some retarded file was pissing off Vegas. I will certainly not buy a Sony product again though. They have scarred me for life.
musicvid10 wrote on 8/29/2013, 9:48 PM
Let's back up to the beginning.
Quicktime has nothing specific to do with your files, although it "may" contribute to some general stability issues in Vegas.

Your files, if all the same flavor, require the x264vfw 64 bit codec. You can get the latest from Sourceforge.

When "consistent crashing" with Vegas is reported, the cause is often related to overclocking, system temps, unnecessary codec "packs", or occasionally, resident antivirus software. Rule them out one at a time.
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/30/2013, 5:57 AM
Well I uninstalled Quicktime, didn't seem to make a difference. It's so confusing! Some people are like UNINSTALL IT! Others are like INSTALL IT YOU NEED IT FOR THE PROGRAM TO WORK. And I'm just sitting here scratching my head.

I'm clearly no expert on this subject, but I do have the x264vfw codec, as that is what I record with. Here are the settings I use: http://i1256.photobucket.com/albums/ii495/xSWATxBadkid/x264vfwCodecsettings_zps7c428045.jpg

I have not overclocked my system (yet), I have an H100i AIO liquid cooler on the CPU. At max load it never goes over 65C. My GPU is the 7970 Matrix, it has a huge air cooler on it, never goes over 65C max. I have plenty of fans, ok a lot of fans in my case so airflow is not the problem. I'm a computer hardware enthusiast, if something was up here chances are I would know haha. :)

I do have several codec I installed while testing some out... the Lagarith Loseless codec, Xvid MPEG4 codec, VP60 Simple Profile, VP61 Advanced profile. I think the last 2 were bundled with the Xvid one. I only use the x264vfw to encode raw video, and MSP's build in Internet video codec to export to my HDD.

Well I have Malwarebytes anti malware free, but that isn't running 24/7, but the Windows built in ones so. And so does Comodo firewall free, but usually if a programs want something Comodo will ask me for permission to let is do whatever it wants to do and I will say yes.

Thanks for trying to help me guys, the programs seem like a bottomless pit of errors! ;)

I'm gonna eat and that edit with it. Lets see how it works haha.
vkmast wrote on 8/30/2013, 6:04 AM
Maybe you could upload a sample file of your footage somewhere for someone to try with their MSP 12?
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/30/2013, 6:20 AM
Sure, encoding it with WinRAR would work well right? Where should I upload it to?
vkmast wrote on 8/30/2013, 6:33 AM
[i]Dropbox is an option which seems to be used here often.
musicvid10 wrote on 8/30/2013, 9:45 PM
Have you tried working with GPU turned off?
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 8/31/2013, 9:21 PM
Im not going to shut my GPU off to run this program, that is ridiculous. If you have to go to the extent of disabling hardware that should actually help Sony should stop making software.

Besides, it seems to be working, though I have yet to use it extensively.
musicvid10 wrote on 8/31/2013, 10:23 PM
Believe it or not, across-the-board GPU stability with all driver versions (they come from your video card manufacturer, not Sony) is still a work in progress. One video driver version may be stable, the next increment may not.

Strange as it may seem, video card manufacturers do not release drivers to Sony in advance for testing, nor do they wait for Sony's approval before public release. Turning it off in Vegas is one quick test to see if GPU acceleration with YOUR PARTICULAR VIDEO DRIVER is involved. It may not be involved.
Did you think you couldn't turn it back on again???

But your mind is already made up; so best of luck!
You just made my do-not-reply list. Be kind to your pets.
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 9/1/2013, 2:49 PM
I know what GPU drivers are. Like I said I'm a hardware enthusiast. Thank god Sony doesn't make GPU drivers, I can only imagine the amount of problems they would have. I game, a lot, on many different games. I have yet to find a game that doesn't like my drivers.

I'm sure they don't, but do you think they let every single game dev look at them before releasing them? No, it would be waaaaaaaaaaaay to time consuming. I guess when I have a crash I'll try turning it off.

Yeah my mind is in fact made up, never buy Sony software again. Thanks for wishing me luck, you for sure need it with this program. Do not reply list? I'm fine with that.

It is just depressing how a run of the mill high end system is not fully utilized, and the program crashes if you screw one thing up, or do something it doesn't like. Such as fast forwarding through a clip you have sped up, does it every single time for me.
Julio_Mourao wrote on 9/2/2013, 9:57 AM
I have been using Vegas Movie Studio for many years without significant problems, but since I upgrade to version 12 I am experiencing the same problems as iiBetrayforAr. I can’t anymore render a blue-ray disc image (MainConcept MPEG-2), Vegas regularly crashes during rendering. I can now only render to Sony AVC. And also I consistently encounter crashes when I speed down a clip and try to play it. I have tried all the suggestions I could find in this forum, to no avail.
My system: Gigabyte P55M-UD2, Intel core i7 @2,80 GH, 8 gig Ram, Windows 7 64-bit, Nvidia Gforce GTX-550 ti, Vegas V12 64 bit, clips are MTS from Sony HDR-CX560.
Markk655 wrote on 9/2/2013, 11:08 AM
Interesting...Does crashing occur when rendering to MainConcept for short clips too?

What is interesting is that rendering to MC uses 90+% load on my I7 cpu, whereas Sony AVC only uses ~70% max. If it only crashes on longer renders, have you checked your cpu temperature during rendering?

Julio_Mourao wrote on 9/3/2013, 8:46 AM
Thanks Markk for your comments. As crashing didn’t occur on short clips, I have been investigating the CPU temperature question. I found that my computer was overclocked – what I was not aware of – and, after adjusting this, I could render a rather long (40 min) blu-ray video to MainConcept. So I consider the problem solved. Thank you again.
Markk655 wrote on 9/3/2013, 10:51 AM
Glad to hear that!
iiBetrayforAR wrote on 9/5/2013, 5:02 PM
LOL. Got something worth editing today, sped a few sections up, render. Crashed immediately. Try 3 more times CRASH.

The hardware is not over heating. I save the edit files to my C: SSD I render the vids to my E: WD Black I record to my G: WD RE. Running latest MOBO BIOS, CCC 13.8 BETA drivers. Nothing more I can think of to list. In a nutshell, hardware isn't the problem, I got more than enough beef.

I'm not even mad anymore to be honest, I unfortunately have come to expect this! :|
