Custom toolbar resets each time app is opened

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 6/13/2022, 6:27 PM

Wow. So, wasted a lot of time today making all my precise customizations to the two toolbars in Vegas 19 *most recent build* and everytime I close and reopen one or both of them have reverted to default.

I'm sick :/ Getting really fed up with the effort it takes to get this running. T

The same issues I've reported for like 5 years still unfixed.

1) Every time i reset my pc or get a new computer my menus all glitch out on the render screen, buttons disappear, etc everytime i redo my pc setup.

2) Everytime I render, audio stops playing. Never got it to work for more than 1 day before it went back.

3) Still crashing if I accidentally delete something in timeline during playback.

We shouldn't have to be constantly doing workarounds and going through crashes to fix things that have existed that long for 5 build's or so. I also have advanced save set to every 1 minute because of how frequent for past 3 years crashes have been.

If anyone can help guide me on fixing these things please do!

@ColdHardDrewth - Yes, very frustrating. As this is happening on your System, please add your sys specs to your Signature. Doing this may just nudge others to come up with a direction to take in assisting you. As a kinda format to what to include, for writing your sys specs, do look at mine.

As per what @Grazie wrote above. When you mention 5 year old bugs, we have zero idea of what you are talking about.

If you want help, follow the guidelines HERE.

As a side note, my custom toolbars never reset when I exit and restart Build 636. I set them up once and they've remained, and I can delete clips while playback is happening and no crashes on my system. If I undo the delete, the the playhead continues to move, but there is a static image of the video in the preview. Pausing playback and then resuming playback fixes this. So this is where you have to provide the information needed to possibly troubleshoot your problem.

@Reyfox - Yes. The only time I need to reset my Toolbars, and this isn’t always either, is going from build to build. So, @ColdHardDrewth, it would appear, for five years, your system is thinking it needs to reset itself, each and every time you boot up VP.

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 6/14/2022, 4:23 AM

Okay, everyone. Sorry. I have had multiple computers over the past 5 years and every year I upgrade to new Vegas, but the same issues have appeared every time even on different PCs.

Current PC:

Windows 11 (most recent)

Alienware Aurora R11

Intel Core i9-109000k CPU @ 3.70ghz, 10 core

32GB RAM

Graphics: GeForce RTX 2080 TI

Previous PC 2 years ago was similiar but had 16 GB RAM, i7 processor, and RTX 1080

Now it's the top toolbar, it won't save. I see it's reverted again, but bottom toolbar has stayed for now.

#2 issue (lasted for years on and off)

Audio playback issue still a thing. If I render, then try to play timeline it says this.

See image:

#3 issue

This weird menu glitching. Can't remember how it was fixed before but it involved unchecking something or switching a graphic card setting in the vegas menu, i think. Hopefully I can find the original solution. I couldn't when i searched for it. Someone here helped me before! All I know is out of the box the app should not do things like that that we have to hunt and fix to even view the menus.

Thanks in advance!

Yep that's me again. So it's been just a bit over a year since I fixed it which itself was about a year after it started. Same issue came back months later and I don't remember when it's returned. But now it's fixed again thanks to you. Why is that still even a thing 😜

#1 - I've not seen that happen on any of my installs on any of my systems. I've change the toolbar on at least three different systems (two with VEGAS Pro 19, one with VEGAS Pro 18) and I've not seen any issues with doing that. Could it be that you need to start VEGAS with Administrative rights to make sure it has permission to save the information?

#2 - what if you go to Options - Preferences - Audio Device and choose a different option there? Does that make a difference? And what is yours set to?

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 6/14/2022, 7:05 PM

#1 is definitely a bug. I've now reproduced it 20 times and narrowed it down to this, removing either of these new menu items seems to force a reset on next open of app. :(

But then I decided okay, I'll leave them. So it set it up how i like it with tons of separator icons (been doing this for years... never an issue before)

Restarted thinking it was finally over and ... everything reverted again.

Yeah, this isn't right. I'm so sad.

#2 i'll have to check later.

@jetdv I too just added everything after the Hub icon. No separators. Never a reset.

ColdHardDrewth wrote on 7/17/2022, 3:59 AM

I finally remembered to come back and say that #2 and #3 are both fixed... Again... but why do both issues keep re-occuring? These seems like things Vegas would have fixed. Won't be upgrading to future editions anymore since it seems the same issues exist year after year :(

#2 was fixed by switching audio device to "Realtek ASIO" from Microsoft Sound Mapper

#3 was fixed by: "Hold Shift while pressing menu Options, selects Internal (last row). In the search box at the bottom, type gpu.

Find the "GPU acceleration for Windows Presentation Foundation" entry and set to False. Restart Vegas"

@ColdHardDrewth I have never experienced the issues that you are posting about. I've never had to go into Internals to do what you have done to fix your #3. #2 is default (Realtek), and not MS Sound Mapper unless I decide to choose it in a DAW that I might be using.

That's bizarre since I I've had these issues over a few years recurring on different computers under different windows. Somehow my audio driver changes from the default and my NVIDIA cards gets those glitches unless i disable that internal gpu thing.

Now I'm dealing with another issue I've seen people posting about online for years that's unfixed, YouTube MKVs downloaded by 4K Video Downloader not opening in Vegas, with the experimental MKV checked under file / io. it sucks my regular use of Vegas is hampered by so many problems. My guess on the YouTube one is it has to do with the VP9 codec.

Not seeing anything of the sort here with any version of Vegas Pro. Specific info needed including which version and build along with screenshots showing a "before and after" it happens.

I've found it's always best to make the desired changes and then exit VEGAS. Exiting VEGAS saves those changes. Then when you reopen VEGAS you can confirm that the changes were properly saved.

@Siyabonga-Hlalethoa  ... just to check one (though probably unlikely) explanation ... if opening Vegas Pro 21 from the Task Bar icon, are you using the 'VEGAS Pro 21.0 with Prefs Reset' option rather than 'VP21' or a project name? Because that option does reset VP back to its default/factory settings thus losing custom toolbar settings.
