Dual layer DVDs

I need a bigger DVD capacity than the regular DVD, before jumping to blu ray... a dual layer DVD would do for the time being..... I only see Verbatim DL +R.. available... I am used to Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.... can these Verbatim DL+R be played on any DVD players? like the DVD-R. What is the Max length of time (hours, minutes) I can record? on a DVD-R I was limiting the project size @ 1h15mn to be safe which was around 4.4GB on architect studio..... can a 2½ hours movie fit on a dual layer DVD?
Thanks

There are other makes of DVD+R DL, but Verbatim are widely regarded as the most reliable. These discs will play on most STBs, but not all. Actually, there are old boxes that won't play DVD-Rs (but not many).

I routinely records up to 2 hrs of a single-layer disc and find the quality acceptable. It depends on the source and the type of material. 2½ hours on a DL would be absolutely no problem. It's important to place the layer break carefully and you will find other threads on this topic.

+1 to all that TOG62 says. My own experiences exactly. Also use reliable burning software like the free ImgBurn.
