Dynamic soft light rays

Blovanchik wrote on 1/7/2023, 3:24 PM

Hi everyone!

I'm doing one animation and want to add one specific element into scene. It should be soft almost parallel rays of light out of frame (not just blurring the brightest places of video). So it is supposed to look like that.

Also it must 1. slowly move each ray to overcover one another 2. appear and dissapear by zones like a laser beam in smoke (it can be done by masking with animated noise texture, i think). The closest example that i found is this .

Maybe someone was already working on that and has the solution. If not, i will be gratefull for any kind of help.

As you've posted your question under VEGAS EFFECTS, presumably you have Vegas POST which includes the Vegas Effects program (a trimmed down version of HitFilm Pro). In Vegas Effects, have a look to see if there is an FX named Anamorphic Lens Flare as you may be able to use this FX to achieve something like what you are seeking.

Cameras: Sony FDR-AX100E; GoPro Hero 11 Black Creator Edition

Installed: Vegas Pro 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 & 22, HitFilm Pro 2021.3, DaVinci Resolve Studio 20, BCC 2025, Mocha Pro 2025.0, NBFX TotalFX 7, Neat NR, DVD Architect 6.0, MAGIX Travel Maps, Sound Forge Pro 16, SpectraLayers Pro 11, iZotope RX11 Advanced and many other iZ plugins, Vegasaur 4.0

Windows 11

Dell Alienware Aurora 11:

10th Gen Intel i9 10900KF - 10 cores (20 threads) - 3.7 to 5.3 GHz

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB GDDR6 - liquid cooled

64GB RAM - Dual Channel HyperX FURY DDR4 XMP at 3200MHz

C drive: 2TB Samsung 990 PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 PCIe SSD

D: drive: 4TB Samsung 870 SATA SSD (used for media for editing current projects)

I posted in Vegas Effects only cause i'm doing that effect in Vegas. I tried BBC Lens Flare and its rays are ok, but they go from one point. The center can be just situated farther from frame and total size of effect roughly increased, so the rays in frame look more parallel... This can work but i'd like to find more fitting solution, maybe specific plugin, effect or native method.

Please note that the Vegas Effects sub-forum is for discussions on matters related to the Vegas Effects program which is included in VEGAS POST.

Maybe do a search for LIGHT LEAKS. It might get you close to what you want.

In Vegas Post, I would use Auto Volumetrics parented to a fractal noise plane. Like in this tutorial:

After all i think there is no ultimate solution for that task in Vegas. The nearest variants are:

  1. To create Lens Flare effect with rays only out of frame.
  2. In Vegas Effects use Auto Volumetrics.
  3. To find ready footage and to use masking and mixing.

Thanks all for help!
