this version is only for win10

My understanding is it should still work in Win7 but not completely.

@Jontus Are you entering the trial serial number sent to you in an email?

A related thread with comments from a VEGAS team member.

I did read that related thread. Did not provide any solution. Movie Studio Platinum 17 readme file clearly states that.

5. System Requirements

The following lists the minimum system requirements for using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum software:

Microsoft® Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 (Windows 8 or later with a touchscreen required for touchscreen editing)

There is no part where this software asks serial, license or any checkbox to activate free trial. Just throws an error at start.

Just wanted to test how well this runs on windows 7 before i buy it or vegas pro 17. I already have vegas pro 15 and sony movie studio platinum 13.

Unfortunately the readme file is out of date. The correct System specs are here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-movie-studio/specifications/#productMenu

You did the correct thing when you tried "to test how well this runs on windows 7 before i buy it". As mentioned in the "Try before you buy" pinned thread: "--- a trial is highly recommended, to check compatibility with your system----".

I will add, if you don't intend to switch to 10 in the coming year, I will advice you to wait and do not harry to VMS17 or Vegas 17.

Thank you for your help. Got it working. Seems i missed some .NET framework updates. The program was trying to start without the license window popping up where you could pick the trial period and registeration.

It works ok for my system. No crashes or hickups yet.

Only thing Vegas studio platinum did not like was when it scanned my VST's folder and flipped out and crashed. Solved by renaming my VST folder for something else for the first boot and replaced the regular VST folder in settings to some temp folder. This has been the case since i can remember (same thing in earlier vegas versions).
