'Error writing a file' message

Jack S wrote on 5/3/2013, 6:30 PM
Hi.
I've just got started editing HD after years editing SD.
I tried preparing a test project that was (I think) fully compliant (the Prepare sequence indicated that there would be no compression) in DVDAS. Immediately after the prepare sequence a message was displayed as below:-

Warning: An error occurred while writing a file.
Error 0x80131604 (message missing)

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
I'm rendering to Sony AVC and W64 in Movie Studio 12.

Does the error come while writing the ISO or burning your BluRay disc?
Jack S wrote on 5/4/2013, 11:20 AM
Hi, and thank you for responding.
The error message comes immediately after the prepare process in DVDAS, presumably when the .iso is being written. I checked the folder and there was no iso file there. I'm using Sony AVC Blu-Ray template in MSP11 to produce a .avc file.
This is my first Blu-Ray project after many years of creating SD DVDs so I must be doing something wrong.
I'm now going to render the same project as Mainconcept Blu-Ray and see if that works.

Edit:- No, still get the message with a Mainconcept .m2v file. I'll keep trying!

Edit no.2 - I've just remembered that I'm still on release 128. I've avoided updating as it's been working Ok up to now and I didn't want to introduce any potential problems. Could this be the problem I wonder?

Edit No 3 - Upgraded to build 150 and things look good. I've successfully created an ISO file from the Sony AVC file. The problem must have been with build 128.

Running as Administrator?
All antivirus turned off?
Plenty of space in the folder / drive (at least 50GB)?

Jack,
check the Release notes of builds 156 and 157 to see some of the bugs fixed, esp. re the AC-3 Studio files.

Thanks vk.
That's worth knowing about as a limitation of my current build (150). I've purposely avoided upgrading the build until now as it's been so stable creating DVDs. Now it's stable again with build 150 I'm reluctant to go to the current build. Could anyone who's working with the current build instil some confidence in me to make the leap to it?

You can install, uninstall, and revert to previous builds at will. It's not a forever thing.
Didn't catch your answers to my questions three up.

Jack,
there's an article in the SCS KB about "Error 0X80131604".
https://www.custcenter.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5044/
Btw, I'm still on b128 with DVD AS 5.0, which still burns high-definition video to a DVD for playback in a Blu-ray Disc player using the BDMV format (if one wants that feature).

Hi, sorry for not answering your questions but as I'd got the preparation working by updating to build 150 I wasn't sure if they were relevant to my problem. However, here they are:-

Yes, I'm running as Administrator.
No, I never turn my antivirus off unless absolutely necessary.
Yes, I was preparing to a drive with 163G free.

Jack

Hi vk
Thanks for the heads-up about the article. Although the problem has gone with the update to build 150, I've saved the info for future reference.
Your second point is good to know as well.

Jack
