I suggested that in a features request, several generations of Vegas ago. Nothing yet that I know of. But I'll sure be watching responses to this thread, to see if anyone else comes up with a suggestion.

I think if you switch the project media window view to detail you get a column that mentions how many times a clip was used as an event.

Thank you, OldSmoke. Found it. The setting for that in Project Media View is "details," as you suggested. But unfortunately, you then lose the thumbnail. In another NLE (consumer type) that I use, clips that have been used are highlighted.

Ctrl+A, then right-click on an event and Select in Project Media list.

Thanks for your replies everyone, much appreciated.

What I was hoping for is a small dot or something on each used event in the media pool, which would easily show if that event was in the timeline, unfortunately it appears that's not possible.

Switching to detail view does go half-way there, but not totally convenient. Thanks OldSmoke for that info. interestingly, it seems that if the event is a movie clip it shows as 2 uses - presumably video and audio. If the event has been split, it shows as 4 uses.

Your suggestion, vkmast, does also help. It's a little bit back-to-front for what I'm after, and has to be repeated when I need to check what's been put in the timeline, but never-the-less will be a very useful facility.

And finally, Len, I agree with all your points.

Once again, thanks to all for your advice, very helpful.

Steve.
