Having some issue with Vegas Pro 15 That I cant work out -

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/25/2018, 2:12 AM

I am having issues with Vegas Pro 15 that have semi started out of the blue.

Ever since I have been using it it regularly hangs and crashes - these seem common problems that show up on many google searches and I was able to work around them and as long as I saved often it didnt really affect my work flow too much - besides a lot of frustration and about 50 reports to Magix via the crash log thing that pops up.

However yesterday I was using the software to make a video - I chose to make the preview full screen which happened however the image on the screen was frozen - I couldnt get it back to normal with escape.

I could bring up task manager and alt tab to select other things running however the full screen was always in front.

I figured it was another crash and software bug so I selected to restart the computer which it did - now this is where my real problems have started.

When the computer restarted I got the Error 59 Bug which I worked aroudn eventually I had to reinstall 15 pro to fully get around that.

Now Vegas 15 starts ok you can use it just as normal but I am having an issue rendering as I was before.

Using the GPU render option as I have been successfully for months the video I am creating gets to 25 - 35% and hangs and either the preview window flashes with some odd frames - Or it goes white with some other part of the video overlaid onto it.

Or it goes white and the overlaid video is upside the down like the preview window has rotated 180 degrees

I have tried all the obvious fixes - reset the software, disable SO4, Video preview to 0mb - to be honest I had done all these anyway to try and get better stability.

I am trying a CPU render now to see if its any better and just hoping for the best as I need to get work out but I am pretty peeved that this software is so buggy and I am having so many issues after spending hundreds of pounds on it.

My PC is modern powerful with loads of ram and a good GPU so there is no issue there, Its also not hot in the slightest.

I am hoping someone can advise me here - I really dont want to have to try an OS Reinstall as its a lot of work because its my work computer and downtime is bad for me

Thanks in advance - really appreciate any and all help

More precise and complete info according to this post will make it easier for others to help you with this.

...about 50 reports to Magix via the crash log thing that pops up.

Unfortunately those don't get through to Magix. They can only be attached to a follow-up email to a support request. See here.

Vegas Pro 15

Windows 10

1950x, X399, 32Gb Ram, GTX 160

Footage is 4k filmed on a Panasonic GH5 - in the normal 4k mode - not the high chroma 10bit hdr mode

Just normal 8bit 4.2.2 29.97 fps.

I am using the Magix decoders to render the video - the 4k GPU 29.97 one using the stock settings.

I have made loads of videos using Vegas 15 with the same equipment over the last few months since I have been using this Vegas software.

Yesterday was strange - and I will add a screenshot to show what it looks like in case that helps.

I am currently running the same project but rendering using the Magix CPU version of the 29.97 4k codec and its 66% finished so hopefully it finish ok so I can move on to new work.

I disabled the gpu usage in preferences for this render - which might be a temp work around however render time has gone from 1 to 8 hours so its not ideal long term.

It does point to the gpu rendering aspect of the software (or maybe drivers) which is odd because it was working fine - lots of crashes but generally usable to render video in these exact settings

I did update the gpu drivers and it made no difference

Is that enough extra info or do I need to add more? Thanks for helping me

Something I have noticed - before my problem my cpu was being used about 80% average during a render.

After the problem the cpu is being used only 40% during I render I dont how that can be affected so much?

Sorry Pro Edit - whatever the latest version is you can download or up date to sorry

NickHope wrote on 4/25/2018, 7:50 AM

OK, I'll assume build 321 then. And I'll assume your GPU is a GTX 1060, not GTX 160.

Maybe try rolling back your GPU driver: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us I'm not sure which version to choose though, so make a sensible choice based on the dates.

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/25/2018, 8:00 AM

Yeah sorry 1060 - I will give that a try.

I didnt change the driver, or update them or anything but I will try that next thanks V.much

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/25/2018, 2:29 PM

Driver change didnt fix it sadly, anything else you can think of to try? Thanks

I have started a support ticket hope they get back to me soon

I can only really direct you to the troubleshooting post for this: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-stop-vegas-pro-hanging-or-crashing-during-rendering--104786/ Do go through it carefully. Many times users have said these troubleshooting posts don't help, but then it turns out that the solution was within them.

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/26/2018, 12:27 PM

I have worked through these and tried some of the other things suggested in other threads linked to - still getting a problem with gpu rendering.

Totally new project at 40% the preview window repeats about 5 frames over and over - the frame counter keeps going for a bit. The software hasnt crashed as I can cancel the project but if you leave it long enough it does crash.

I have tried - fix .net framework.

Tried changing all different deinterlace methods

Tried FALSE for Multi Core and True for Disable Muli Core.

I know the render will work if I disable gpu in preferences but that defeats the purpose of buying Vegas 15 in the first place and it has worked up until recently so there must be a fix.

Brain Damage and no response from Support yet

Just tried doing a render using AVC Main codec instead of Nv Encoder @ 40% project got stuck WTF

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/27/2018, 1:07 PM

Magix support have come back to me and said the issue is related to Redistributable.

Make sure that the correct version of the redistributable is installed. If it is not, you should be able to download it directly from Microsoft's website.
- After the redistributable is installed, go to your computer's Programs and Features window, which can be accessed from the Control Panel.
- In Programs and Features, highlight the entry for the specific redistributable version, click Change, and then click Repair. (Please note that the "Repair" option is what fixes this issue; an uninstall/reinstall may not correct the problem)
- After the repair installation is completed, you may launch the VEGAS application

I have them insatlled to 2017 - are their any newer ones you are aware of?

Also I have repaired 2017 - back to 2012 - before that only seems to let you uninstall which I am apprehensive to do, incase I cant replace them.

So far repairing 2017 - 2012 hasnt fixed the issue.

I have just repaired them all again one after the other and trying the render again.

Have I missed anything??

Thanks again

Its rubbish I have been at this for hours and its made no difference at all - I am not very happy getting to my wits end with this. I have never used such expensive software thats given me so many problems

Former user wrote on 4/28/2018, 5:29 AM

You never confirmed that by disabling Gpu acceleration in preferences/video that you rendered fully past 66%. Assuming that you did then maybe try removing the gtx 1060 and using your older one or different one if available, simply to see if it makes any different.

Theres a problem primarily with the latest drivers and the gtx 1060 ... https://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/damien-cox/nvidias-latest-drivers-are-causing-issues-for-gtx-1060-users/

This is a link for DDU ... http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/28/2018, 6:01 AM

It works fine with GPU disabled - renders fine but take 6 hours when it should take 60 mins.

I went back to older drivers from January to try that and it didnt help either. I dont have another GPU to test - typical I own the one with the problems, I didnt know about them

As I keep mentioning its not like it hasnt worked - and when I had the major error / crash that seems to have caused the issue I ddnt have the latest Nvidia drivers - I hadnt updated them yet.

I did try after and that didnt help then went back to drivers from January and that didnt help.

I could try going back even more but it worked fine up until this week.

I was tempted to buy a faster GPU for faster renders with denoise etc but you can see my reluctance to spend any money on that when I dont play games and atm I am relying on cpu rendering which takes ages even on 1950x 32 thread cpu.

I do appreciate any and all assistance with this - support and in contact as well. I think if I do a fresh OS Install it might fix the issue but its my daily work pc and I could really do without having to do that if I can help it for obvious reasons.

There must be a fix - he preys :)

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/28/2018, 6:49 AM

Another thing now pretty much every time I try and preview a full screen timeline it crashes the whole software.

i.e. it just hangs and I press escape the whole software has shut down.- what is causing that as well?

Former user wrote on 4/28/2018, 8:20 AM

You could try Vegasaur, trial download. Theres a quick render option that doesn’t update the screen in real time as it renders. You can select a pre made Nvenc render template for speed using it. If it works it may do you until you get your machine back to the way it was, I assume you’ve checked if you have a Windows restore point to go back to? Also you have tried DDU?

"I have never used such expensive software thats given me so many problems"

Reading that sentence, I couldn't get Tom Papa's punch line out of my mind long enough to think of anything to help you.

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/28/2018, 2:42 PM

I know I am ranting, I do really like the software, I have invested heavily into with add ons for what I need.

So I really just need it to work and have been really unlucky with a ton of problems, crashes and all sorts - makes you save after every change you make and regret forgetting. Thats not right really is it.

However I do hope I can get this fixed and move on because I am just starting to learn what I am doing :)

I do appreciate all help, sure we all know how frustrating it is to be in these shoes.

Musicvid wrote on 4/28/2018, 9:59 PM

Dollars to donuts you've got a stick of ram mis-seated, a bad gpu, or a hard drive going south. Replacing them one at a time may isolate the culprit, but a lot of what you say points to the GPU.

Especially if the drivers and .net installation are validated, as you seem to have done.

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/29/2018, 5:28 AM

I have run a gpu stress test 100% vram 100% core and 0 errors etc. Its software not hard ware I am sure of it.

Its a lot of money to buy another gpu in hope - then be back to square one £600 lighter or worse.

It was working fine - then I got a lot of problems with Vegas like the Error 59 problem, then it wouldnt accept my authorisation. I had to uninstall and reinstall the software twice to fix those errors. Thats not hardware

Musicvid wrote on 4/29/2018, 9:15 AM

If you're certain you've ruled out hardware and heat, then something has changed. Possibly a silent upgrade. A system restore to a couple of weeks ago might be revealing, as windows let's you know what has changed. Also, posting the dump from "error 59" may give a clue. I'm still not convinced you don't have a hard drive acting up. Did you run scandisk?

Pursuit-Perfect-System wrote on 4/29/2018, 9:54 AM

if it was the hard drive it wouldnt render to it at all - plus I would get issues copying big files to and from it and I havent had a single issue with the pc outside Vegas - everything else works perfectly.

Musicvid wrote on 4/29/2018, 9:58 AM

That is entirely speculation -- best of luck.

Musicvid wrote on 4/29/2018, 10:08 AM

Error 59 may have to do with an inability to self-register over the internet

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum-search/?query=Error+59

However, the multiple issues you report have far more implications than that...
