HD to DVD

I have recently bought a Sony HDR CX730E. On playback, plugged into USB on my HD TV I am pleased with the results.

I have downloaded Vegas Movie Studio HD 11
and DVD Architect Studio 5 - both trial versions.

Editing and making the film on Windows XP is easy. But how the hell do I get it onto an ordinary DVD? I don't have a Blu Ray recorder or player. Do I have to get these now, or can I, for the moment, record onto a DVD?

What I have done so far:
In Vegas Movie Studio - set Project Properties as 'PAL DV Widescreen'

Then following advice on FAQs on Sony site - Rendered as: for Video Main Concept MPEG-2 (Programme stream PAL widescreen). For audio. 48000Hz 16 bit Stereo PCM.

On DVD Architect, having imported the files, I use the 'burn' button. Going to Select Burn Parameters, for Device it has (E:) Sony DVD RW DW-Q28A KYS1
BUT it doesn't seem to recognise that a DVD is present. The 'Finish' Button cannot be activated.

Am I being an absolute dumbo?? If anyone can make sense of this, then please help.
Thanks Brian

Your camcorder is an AVCHD high-def camcorder.

It shoots in a variety of formats, but I very much recommend, for your workflow, you shoot in 1920x1080 50i -- and that you ensure that those are your project properties in Movie Studio.

I've got a free 8 part Basic Training tutorial series if you'd like to work through them. You'll find it on the left side of this page:
http://muvipix.com/vms11.php

If you've got the Platinum version of the software, you can simply select Make Movie, Burn DVD with Menus and follow the prompts and the program will render a DVD-ready file and port it right into DVD Architect for you.

You can also go to Movie Studio's Project menu and select Render As and then, from the Main Concept menu, select MPEG2 Program Stream PAL. Then you just bring that finished file into DVD Architect. (As I'm sure you know, DVDs are, by their nature, standard definition video -- so you can't create a high-def DVD. But using these workflows, Movie Studio will downsample your movie for you.)

Empers,
try going to Options->Preferences and check (or uncheck) the "Skip drive database" option. See if makes a difference.
If not, try the workaround. Prepare the folder and burn it with another software, e.g. the free ImgBurn.

Thank you guys - I still haven't got it sorted. But illness has prevented me from applying my mind to it properly. I'll settle down to this when I can. Just wanted you to know your advice is appreciated.

HI Unfortunately Movie Studio like other software doesn't cater for the Newbee, they have tutorials that go a double-quick and even the text in "Show Me How" is really too small to read easily. There are Tutorials (ie here), but they are not really aimed at someone with little knowledge. Beware of On-Line tutorials which can be of "very variable" quality - although if you can spare the tiem they may each give some info.
However, a further shame is that you bought the basic program, whereas the "production suite" is better value, although more money. You get Sound Forge (for editing, fixing audio) and DVD Architect - which took me 3-weeks to realise it wasn't a bonus floor-planner program. Also mine came with a DVD tutorial disc to play on the TV - but it needs a warning - "only play when you know the basics" as it does move rather quickly when you are not familiar with the techy terms, or button positions, etc.

I'm keen to know about that Camcorder . . . is there another Forum for "hardware" perhaps?
Hope yr better soon.

The solution is there somewhere - it's just difficult finding it.

harry,
leaving aside the inevitable learning curve aspect of this or any editing software, did you not check the cover of the package of VMSPPS 10 (which I know you have). It states HD video editing , audio mastering, & DVD/BD authoring, no mention of a bonus floor-planner program.
Alternatively you could also have saved (almost) three weeks by going to the product pages on this site. There it says Movie Studio Platinum comes with DVD Architect Studio software so you can easily create and burn professional-looking DVDs and Blu-ray Discs. 'Easily´ may be sales talk, but the other wording does give you a clue about DVD.
The terms architect and architecture are also used in the disciplines of landscape architecture, naval architecture and often information technology (for example a network architect or software architect). (Wikipedia)
