(help request) Video rendering incorrectly, preview window looks fine

Alexander-Schmidtka wrote on 9/23/2020, 9:19 AM

My preview window looks fine in vegas both during editing and rendering but the final video file has weird artifacts occurring, almost looks like compression. It occurs at about the 0:06-0:08 mark.

I'm using Magix AVC/MP4 on the Internet UHD 2160p 59.94fps (NVIDIA NVENC) template.

Try rendering without using NVENC. Do a CPU only render and see if there is a difference.

  • ASUS ROG Strix X570-E
  • Ryzen 9 3900x 12-core
  • 128GB RAM (4x32GB)
  • Nvidia RTX 2070 8GDDR6
  • 1TB WD Black NVMe M.2 for OS/Prog
  • 1TB WD Black NVMe M.2 for Media
  • 1TB/2TB/4TB SATA3 SSDs for projects/media
  • 4TB WD Red drive for local cache
  • 10TB EXOS Enterprise, 14TB Toshiba drive for local cache
  • 32in 4K main monitor, 24in 1080 second
  • Win 11 Pro
  • 28TB NAS for long term archive storage
  • Sony a6000
  • Sony A7C
  • GoPro Hero 8
  • GoPro Hero 11
  • Sony BRAVIA XR X90J 75" 4K HDR10
  • Nvidia Shield TV Pro media player (GigE wired)
  • JBL Bar 5.1

@Alexander-Schmidtka

Did you a default render with that template or customized?
If I render 4K to that template on my laptop from signature I get a bigger file with higher bitrate.
Which is your Nvidia GPU and which exact driverversion is installed for that GPU?

Rendering with the same template but without Nvidia NVENC resulted in the issue not occurring, going to try updating drivers on the card and see if it persists (it probably will since im usually on top of those updates)

did you manage to solve the issue? asking 'cause I stumbled upon it as well

Vegas v17 and earlier made it harder to deal the issue of the always-full-range preview mismatching the always-limited-range renders. You had to use the Vegas Levels FX up top on the output and set it to the "Studio to Computer" preset while editing. Then uncheck that FX to disable it before rendering. You might try selecting 32-bit limited range in the project setting but that'll slow down editing 8-bit clips. The more convenient way to do the same thing without a performance penalty is to get the free SeMW extension that lets you set it to PC up top and disable it automatically whenever you render.

v18 and later changed the preview default to limited-range and allowed you to change it in Project settings. And also change the limited-range render default on the template's project tab.
