I am very close to understanding this, but after upgrading to 16, I am lost now in how to trim down a video I have done. I need to get it to 20 seconds, but am really confused. Please help! thanks
Thank you j-v. Your suggestion was very helpful. I made progress. Now I am closer, but I can not get the video I have edited to stop where I want. It goes on for about 3 seconds longer. CAn you tell me how to edit, split, delete so it ends a few seconds earlier? Hope I asked the question correctly.
Put the cursor on the right time and push S to trim , select the part not wanted and push "delete". To get the time on the timeline very close to where you want to trim by putting the cursor first and then enlarge the timeline with the scroll function of your mouse or the + button on the right side on the bottom.
A free tutorial (which is about the same as @j-v's advice) in Show Me How section: "How to edit on the timeline".
You could also dig up the Trim End button on the Transport and Editing Toolbar (below) and use that (after selecting the event and putting the cursor on the 20 sec).
VKmast, thank you. I have tried viewing the help in the system and it is not working for me. I am complete ly lost and mad I upgraded. I could use the older version easily. You are trying to help, but assume incorrectly I am able to dig up the trim end button on the transport and editing toolbar (below)...what are you talking about? did something get deleted from your message?
@william-martin I suspect there's a missing image from @vkmast's post. Here's the trim buttons. They are greyed out until you have a clip on the timeline selected.
Of interest which VMS version have you upgraded from?
[you] assume incorrectly I am able to dig up the trim end button on the transport and editing toolbar (below)...what are you talking about? did something get deleted from your message?
Yes I did assume that incorrectly and that's why I did not include the relevant screenshot that @EricLNZ was kind enough to add to help you in your predicament.
- Going forward, you can often "dig up" by hovering your mouse over a button and see the description of what the button does. There's now an example below:
- You can also use "What's This?" from online Help (F1) dropdown menu. If you click that, your mouse pointer is displayed as [an arrow with] a question mark to indicate that you are in What's This? help mode. Click on any portion of the window for context-sensitive help about the item you clicked on.
An example of the Help item (if you click on the Toolbar below that I referred to):
The full window you'd see includes short descriptions of any tool on that Toolbar.
- If a new user wants to know the basic areas in the main window there is this shot of The Movie Studio Platinum Window in online Help > Content:
Hope some of this may help you to get familiar with the program. And welcome to the forum!
Thank you everyone! I am making progress!! Feels good.
Now, I have successfully trimmed and deleted my video down to 19 seconds. Unfortunately, when I play it, the video continues for several seconds beyond where I placed the "trim end button" (thank y ou VKmast!)
Any ideas what I can do to make sure the video stops at 19 seconds?
ok, it seems like the movie was rendered at 20 seconds which coincides with the beginning and end trimmer buttons. I guess the fact the cursor runs on for a few seconds does not make a difference in the rendering.
thanks again everyone! good to be on a forum with really smart, helpful folks! :)
