How do I turn Media Manager back on?

Grazie wrote on 7/6/2012, 2:32 AM
OK . . . . I turned OFF MM to get more stability. Now I wish to turn it back on. However, MM is stubbornly refusing to appear - eh?

And yes, I have enabled it in Prefs and yes I have restarted Vegas:-

Any thoughts, Playmates?

TIA

Did you check if the service MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR2 is running?

It's possible that disabling MM in Vegas Preferences also stopped the service, and now it cannot start for some reason (what the reason is exactly you can check in the Event viewer).

I checked, just now:-

According to Task Manager it is running. Now what?

I can make it start up in VP10.

Still nothing in VP11.

Eh?

I never installed Media Manager, so a silly question :), do you (need to) have View / Media Manager checked?
Downunder wrote on 7/6/2012, 5:11 AM
Mr G

You are not alone.......

I have the exact same issue and have been unable to fix it so have left it as I will be shortly doing an update rebuild and software reinstall of my computer. Hoping MM might find it's way home again....

Yes I had it checked . . . .

Rebooted PC. Nada . . . Then gave VP the "2 Finger Salute" - That'll be the Factory Reset. And that did it.

However, the Factory Reset resulted in ALL my PAL and Grazie-Tailored Vegas setups remaining in tack - Uh? Shouldn't I have gotten back US settings and NTSC and so on?

ANyhoooooo . . . I have Media Mingler back on stream. I can access my "other" libraries too.

So, toodles, and thanks for listening to me.

No. No. No.

Three times I've reopened B683.

Three times NO Media Manager.

Three times I've done a Factory reset and and after restarting B683 three times Media Manager is empty.

MM is being Loaded, I can see it on the Splash screen. I've got the MM Window - but it is empty. It's empty of the 2 hours of Library creation I just spent on a NEW client's project.

Nasty, nasty nasty . . . . . . .

Hm... Sounds like you need a reinstall perhaps?

Just B683?
robwood wrote on 7/6/2012, 1:01 PM
have you downloaded the most recent Media Manager?
doubt it'll help and probably you already got it, but here's the link:

I'll look into that Robbo. Thanks.

No go Rob. Uninstalled Media Manager and installed the latest from the SONY site. Openned B683, went through the MM.enable process using the factory reset too, MM becomes active. I close B683 and reopen B683 and MM has gone.

It's active in VP 10.

The MM SQL service module is being reported as being active in Task Manager and I can see MM is being loaded on the Vegas Splash screen.

Now what?

TIA

How would I know? How do I do that? Anyway, MM is working/present in VP10.

Please tell me how to find out? Thank you!

interesting.. as stated on the SCS site here:

http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/dl/dl.aspx?dwnid=243

MM is listed as for Vegas Pro version 8-11.. i thought they dropped it?

I understand MM needs .NET version 2 and /or 2 + SP1

Should be fine Graham, same here more or less. And i just did a test install of MM v2.4 with VP11 - all good. Didn't even know this still worked!

That doesn't help you does it. but at least your .NET seems ok.

Paul, as we are on a "roll", now disengage Media Manager - turn it off in Prefs, you'll then need to close down Vegas - and then start Vegas again. After that Start MM again. And again, you'll need to restart Vegas.

So, Start MM. Close and Restart Vegas. Close down MM and close and restart Vegas. Start MM and then close down Vegas. Restart Vegas and see what you get.

If yours works, then I really don't know . . . .

"i just did a test install of MM v2.4 with VP11 "

As you don't use it perhaps you can try turning it off and on again as Grazie has done and see if you can get it to work or not. At least it might provide a clue, if it's a reproduceable bug SCS need to know about it, if it works OK on your system then we know it isn't.

Probably Grazie's only chance is to do a bare metal re-install of VP11 and MM but he'll lose all his work in the process I fear. There should be a way to backup his data and then restore it but I'm not certain how to go about that.

Did that, turned it off in prefs - then restart. Opened Vegas, then enabled it again - then restarted.
All working. It came back to life. Also seeing the 'opening media library' splash screen upon opening vegas.

Don't know, your MM service is running, .net all ok, it should be all systems go.

Last resort, PC reboot?

edit - just read 'Rebooted PC. Nada'..

Thanks guys. Bob got my drift. This ISN'T a reproducible bug then.

Well as I posted before I have the exact same issue as Grazie...go figure
Grazie wrote on 7/7/2012, 10:16 PM
Well then, and thanks Downundwr, maybe it is reproducible? It's this: GO<>NO-GO : situ that's painful. Actually, not getting a fix is the issue.
