How do updates work for a permanent license of Vegas Pro 19?

Fisk91 wrote on 7/21/2022, 12:09 AM

So I bought a permanent license of Vegas 19 Edit, and I wanted to know how does it work for the updates.

I believe I read somewhere about an Update Service or something where you get "Free Updates for one year" or something? Does that apply to Vegas Pro 19?

If not, then does this mean for Vegas 19 Edit, I can always get the latest version of Vegas 19 Edit? Lets say maybe a year later I get a new computer, and I download Vegas 19 Edit. Do I get the final update of Vegas 19 Edit automatically?

Under the help menu you can find updates (it should also prompt you at applications start if there is a new version.)

The current version of 19 is likely the final update (643) so you should be on that version anyway.

Assuming Vegas Edit 19's last update is update 643.

My concern is, if lets say in a year or two years from now I have to use a new computer, would I be able to re-install 19 and get update 643? or would I be reverted to an older version of Vegas Edit 19?

Hi Fisk, sure if you buy a new computer or uninstall and reinstall when you go to Magix Service Center to download the copy of Vegas you are entitled to, it will be the final update. You can install Vegas 19 on 2 computers as well if you keep the current computer around.

To find other versions of 19 you have to go out of your way (and download them from this forum.)

FWIW: I keep copies of the download files for each version I own so I don't have to download again if/when I change computers.

The way it currently works, updates are tied to their numbered version. So, if you buy 19, you get all of 19's updates as part of the deal, which usually release periodically for around a year from the day that version launched (which means we're around the end of 19's life cycle currently, as far as updates go).

What perpetual licenses do not do is grant you access to the online services VEGAS Hub offers.. the online audio video stock clip library, speech to text/text to speech, cloud storage (and coming soon with VEGAS 20, online collaborative editing), and any other online-enabled features VEGAS uses. This is the advantage the subscription service has over the perpetual model, in addition to getting all the updates to all versions as long as you subscribe.

I know there has been talk behind the scenes of ways that the 2 systems can be bridged, where perpetual license holders can pay a reduced fee for access to the subscription services for a given amount of time, but as of now, the above 2 options are all there is.

That is very encouraging to hear - a very reasonable 'win-win' approach if it is adopted.

+1. Excellent idea instead of an "all or nothing" approach.
