How do you turn off resizing?

Rich Parry wrote on 2/1/2012, 1:10 PM
Assume you have a 1920x1080 project and you put a100x100 pixel image on the timeline, Vegas will automatically expand the image to fill the screen. The same is true for a 5000x5000 pixel image, Vegas will shrink the image to fit the screen.

This behavior is normally what I want, but now I have the need to stop Vegas from automatically resizing. How do I stop Veas from resizing?

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Rich,
See if under "Project Properties" you have "Adjust source media ..." checked.
If yes, uncheck and try...

If you already have several images on your project timeline and you would like to adjust all of them at once, my free Timeline Tools utility extension for Vegas Pro will do this for you.

Simply select the Don't Fit small media option, and press the Apply Changes button.

Fantastic! I was unaware of the Timeline Tools extension until now. Scripts and extensions are one of my favorite parts of Vegas, this looks like an excellent addition to my tool set. Thanks!

Gary,

Wow, that is a fantastic extension. I was completely unaware that this existed. Thank you for
making this available!

Guys, I just posted an update that fixed a bug related to moving Events on the timeline.

Timeline Tools can move selected Events around on the timeline and maintain all of the overlap and transition settings. Most of my software testing has been done on image slideshow projects that contain around 1000 graphic images. Sometime during the last few releases of the utility I inadvertently broke this feature when it was used on a Video clip that also contained an Audio track. The Video Track Event was being moved, but not the Audio Track Event.

This release fixes that bug.

BTW, thanks for your interest and positive comments on my project.

I just want to say that your Timeline Tools development is par excellent. And not only is your programming great, but your effort to
document and keep the informational guide complete is a job well done. I drove my computer programming instructors absolutely crazy with my insistence that I develop real documentation for programs that I authored. I would like them to see (if they were still alive) , ha, how you have done it...fantastic.

Move Selected Events.

You just won me.

I actually use very few scripts and extension apart from the Veggie Toolkit.
Your Timeline Tools looks like becoming the second one that I use.
Many thanks.

Wow. Thanks Doug. As a Sr. Software Engineer for the past 20 years, one of my jobs was to work with Tech Writers in developing the user manuals for the software I've designed. One of my biggest gripes about commercial software has to do with lousy user manuals. When a customer pays top dollar for software, they have every right to expect accurate and complete documentation.

The fact that I've put a lot of effort into documentation for a freebie program, just shows the way I'm wired. I will not put my name on something that hasn't been thoroughly tested and documented. However, I'm like everyone else. I make mistakes. But I'll correct them when they show up.

Thanks to all that replied to my original post.

Doug, I installed Timeline Tools and it works exactly as you advertise. I'll have to browse the tools other features soon.

I am happy with Doug's solution, but I am still surprised there isn't a checkbox somewhere that I can select to force Vegas to "Not Resize". One of the respondents asked if I have "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings". I do not have it checked, so that is not the solution.

So while I have a solution using Timeline Tools, if anyone knows if there is a checkbox to stop Vegas from resizing, I'd like to know.

Thanks in advance to all and especially to Doug for the tool,
Rich

Rich,
doesn't unchecking 'Automatically crop still images added to timeline' in Editing Preferences do what you are after?

Btw, Timeline Tools was actually from Gary James.
Rich Parry wrote on 2/3/2012, 4:16 PM
First an apology for incorrectly thanking wrong person for Timeline Tools (sorry Gary).

VKMAST,
For a second time I tested changing "Adjust source media to better match project or render settings" to see if it stopped Vegas from resizing the image. Again it didn't work.

For this second test, I did it on another computer. Both computers are running VP11 (521). I set project preferences to HD 1080P and put a 500 x 500 px on the timeline and it displayed in the preview window full size vertically. In other words, the 500 px vertical height was resized to 1080.

I tested again with a 4K project perferences and the same thing happened. The 500 px image was expanded vertically to fill the preview window (2304 px).

This isn't urgent, I have a solutioin with Timeline Tools, but it is kind of bugging me now. I'll play with some other options. I'm probably doing something stupid.

Thanks again all,
Rich
