Which version of VP?

I have 15.
Are the options different for different versions?

In VP 15 and 17 you can "Add Audio (or Video) Only".

"If you're adding video files to the timeline, you can choose to add only the audio or video stream to your project. Right-click and drag the files to the timeline. When you drop the files, a shortcut menu is displayed. Choose Audio Only or Video Only from the shortcut menu and choose a command from the submenu to arrange the event on the timeline."

In VP 17 you can "Add missing streams"

"If you had loaded a video file with audio streams via the Video Only or Audio Only option (see "Adding media files to your project" for more information) or if you deleted one of the two media events referring to a video file (by ungrouping it first or with Edit > Group > Remove from) you can quickly recreate the media event for the missing audio or video stream that is stored in the media file.

Right-click the event and choose Add Missing Stream for Selected Event.

A new track is created directly below (audio stream) or above (video stream) the clicked event containing an event of the same length and start time with the corresponding media stream. The two events are grouped."

And what about it you simply deleted the track that contained the audio?
Is that different than Edit > Group > Remove From?
Obviously, that doesn't work with my version 15 but it could be worth the upgrade.

I assume that you would have to match up the streams and group them.

If you mean Edit > Group > Remove From not working, it does not work if there is no Group.

(And your assumption is correct. Did you try it?)

I have not tried it, as I'm at work.
I did remove some audio, from a project that I was working on last night.
There have been multiple times where I wish I had that audio back, later in the editing stage.

I meant that, in my original post, I removed the audio by simply deleting the track that contained the audio.
I didn't do Edit > Group > Remove From (which is what your post mentioned, directly).
I wasn't sure if 17 would re-add the audio, the same way, if it was deleted in some other fashion.
Obviously, since I don't have 17 anyway, I can't try that.

"Remove From" removes from the Group, it does not delete.

If you right click on the video stream there is an option "add missing stream from selected event" Is that what you are looking for? I working with VP16

I'm aware of that.
The question is whether or not 17's Add Missing Streams feature worked when you just deleted the track that contained the audio of the video.
Your post referenced very specifically "or if you deleted one of the two media events referring to a video file (by ungrouping it first or with Edit > Group > Remove from)", so I wasn't sure if applied to the way I did it since I didn't do it that way.
First of all, I didn't ungroup it and then I didn't delete the event (I deleted the track that contained the event).

I'll have to see if I can do that with 15.
I assume that's what vkmast has been talking about, but he said it was an option for 17.

"What's New in VEGAS Pro 16: You can now easily add a missing audio or video stream back to your project automatically synchronized and grouped with its partner stream"

Add missing stream for selected event is available when you delete the track.
