How to Reverse the track?

originalbob wrote on 6/16/2020, 12:47 PM

Trying to emulate a count-down timer created in Pro, using MSP17. Have the sweep and timer working, but the Pro feature used the 'reverse' command to have the timer count DOWN. I select the timer clip, R-click and select 'Reverse.' This puts the "subclip 1 (reversed)" on the timeline, with the reverse arrow. When I play the clip, the timer still counts UP; no change. So I try the clip with the clock wipe transition (I know the transition has settings for both clockwise or counter clockwise; this is a test). Same result the clock wipe continues as clock wise, no change. What am I missing? Is there another way to have the timer count down? Is this a Pro, only, feature? Can't be - because Reverse & Subclips in the help files and on popup menu and reversed subclip is created!

Note - that the timecode Fx has very little customization as to font, colors, which digits display, location, &c. These features would be very helpful for this application.

Thank you, Bob

Would this work for you? Read also online Help item "Creating a time ruler offset" p.1 and 2. (Note that you can type a minus sign.)

I did not try this in VMS 17 because I do it in another way.
1. Insert an empty event on the timeline and add the FX timecode where you want it.
Best is timecode: seconds. Make the file as long as you want.
2. Render it out with or without Chromakeyer for black.
3. Add this in a new project on the timeline and choose "revert" by rightclick
4. If you wish use the cookie cutter to delete what you don't want to see.
This is the result

@vkmast -- no, not really. So, the 'Reverse' command does not work for you, either. I have seen videos of the 'Reverse' command reversing the event in Vegas Pro and MSP13. But it does not work the same in MSP17, unless I do as j-v recommends and render the event first.

@j-v. Thank you, that works! Counter starts at [event length] without regard to where it is placed on time line, and counts down without the minus sign. Just what I am looking for!

But why is the render out required? I have tried to reverse the Fx events, video events, media events, but they do not reverse. And I rendered out the video clip to MP4 format, brought it back to timeline & it still does not reverse!
What is the rule for the 'Reverse' command?
MSP17 help: "Reversing an Event --- The event plays backward on the timeline without affecting the source media."  I am not seeing this!

If you apply the timecode to a timeline or event on the timeline, it is giving the timecode for the timeline, not the event. If you apply the timecode to an event in the media pool, then you can reverse it and the time will run backwards as well.

But why is the render out required?

That's because the reverse command goes only for a real file and probably an empty event is not a real event or file.
So you first have to make a file with the count and with the reverse option it counts in reverse, so back.
Its important for the first render to choose the desired projectsize for the goal at least because the properties hold that size and double renders gives with text the same result.
