How to sort the media bin?

Lan wrote on 11/10/2018, 11:57 AM

I have about 50 small clips in my Project Media clip bin, I have about half of them on the timeline, how do I know, by looking in the media bin (tab) which clips are being used on the timeline, and which ones aren't?

I would like a filter that would remove the file from the list in the Project Media tab if the file is on the timeline. This way, I can only be seeing the clips that have not yet been used.

Is this possible?

Thanks,

Lan

To me, this features seems so obvious, it should have been in version 1.0. It's gotta be here somewhere. It should at least tell me somehow if the clip is being used on the timeline or not, but I can't find how to do this anywhere...help!

This is from the help file:

Note: "unused". Try Ctrl+A on the timeline to select all. Then RC on an event and Select in Project Media list. Change to your bin in PM list and RC to get Remove [selected] from Current Bin.

Try the Smart bin feature, which I just used for the first time.

You can click on the magnifying glass above the media bins and search the media bin for media with the field "use count" equal to 0. That will add a "search" entry to the media bin and display only media not used.

You can then turn the search results into a Smart bin (Right-click on "Search" entry). The Smart bin automatically updates itself based on the query (Use Count, Equals 0). As you drag media to the timeline or remove media from the timeline, you'll see the Smart bin update itself.

You can rename the Smart bin to something like "Unused."

Another alternative: When you view the media bins as details instead of thumbnails or lists, you'll find the column "Use Count." You can sort that column so all unused media are displayed at the top.

This is from the help file:

Yes, but that removes the unused files, I don't want to remove them, I want to use them, but I don't know which ones I've already used without deleting them...not what I want, but thanks.

Ah, that works, not very elegant, but it works, and will help a lot, thanks! :-) (It's quick and easy)

Ah, that's it! Wonderful, there's the solution I was looking for, I knew it had to be there, (way more fancy than I expected...of course.) Thanks so much, I clicked the search icon several times, but needed you to put it all together for me, thanks again! ;-)
