I'd like to make a recommendation to the Vegas team.

I'd like this as the default option for the project.
Full HD 1920x1080 29.970 fps 

This is the most popular option on YouTube.
Beginners are blocked from setting up the project.

If this is your favorite just save to "start new project with this setting". It's not everyone's favorite, e.g. EBU broadcasters would never use this but 720p50, 1080i25 or 1080p50 instead.

I guess this is not convenient for your purposes, from online Help (F1): "Use the New Project dialog to set your project properties. ...Set the Start all new projects with these settings check box at the bottom of each tab to make the actual settings default."

Both VP16 and 17 have a Project Properties setting of HD 1080-60i (1920x1080, 29.970 fps). Would this not meet your requirements?

Existing users are not an issue (including me).
I think the most popular option for new users is 1920x1080 29.970 fps
I hope it will be a more friendly Vegas for beginners.

60i aka 30i is not an option for EBU broadcasting which is 25i and 50p only.

Note that the templates can be customized and saved in both Pro and Platinum.
