I need help getting my serial code for my video editor

Back in June I was paid through commission with the product Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 17 and was able to register and access it with the serial code given by the client. I was also able to do some work with the program so I know it works. However, I've been caught up with other things and haven't used it since June.

Fast forward to present day, and I have come to realize that I can no longer load up the program, saying I needed the activation code. No matter what I did the code I have is already used and activated by another email. I cannot find the serial code or my product info on the website and have long lost contact with the client in question. She has bought the product from Amazon and received the serial code so that all I needed to do was to download the program.

I was given the Error Code 24 so I think I need to contact support, as there is nothing else I can do

The Vegas Help Centre provides the following information about Error Code 24:

Scenario 1/ In you opening sentence, you state that you registered VMSP17 which suggests that you created a My Account using your email address on MAGIX's website (the registration process includes creating an account). If this is the case, the serial number is registered in your name and all you possibly need to do is to go to My Products on your My Account and de-activate the current activation/s and then try opening VMSP17 again and allow it to go through the re-activation process.

Scenario 2/ However, if your client did the full registration and registered VMSP17 on her MAGIX account, then her giving you the serial number really only gave you 2nd install access to VMSP17 (activation on 2 computers at the same time is allowed) - it didn't give you ownership. Since then, she could well have installed it on another computer herself and chosen to de-activate your install to allow that new installation. If this is the scenario that applies, then she is the registered owner of that serial number and either 1/ she didn't contact MAGIX to change ownership to you; or 2/ she possibly might have made it seem like the product was yours while retaining ownership of the serial number.

With Scenario 1, at least you can do something to resolve the problem; but with Scenario 2, you're going to need to track down your former client and ask her to transfer ownership to you.

Note that actually activation on two computers at the same time is allowed. See e.g. @rraud here re installations. I for one have one or two VEGAS products installed on three devices .
