Import Media Format Problem with New PC Build

John222 wrote on 12/29/2016, 3:36 PM

I've been using Vegas with Windows 10 for more than a year without a problem. But now, I built a new PC and did a fresh install of Win 10 and Vegas 11 Pro and I have an issue with importing media files.. Both mts and mpeg2 files result in green screens in Vegas. Both with and without GPU turned on. However, mov files work fine. Apparently I'm missing some codec's but I don't know where to get them other than downloading one of those codec packs that I really don't trust. Any suggestions?

I7 6800 in a Asrock X99 Extreme4 with 16gb RAM and R9-290X video card.

"Media Info" should be able to show you the details on your file formats.

Normally Vegas does not show green with an unknown codec, normally I have found it just drops the video side of the file.

I would make sure you have pushed all the Windows updates, .NET updates, and the latest GPU driver. I find win10 to be really stable, but you do have to get it fully updated.

I've also found Win 10 to be excellent. Davinci Resolve, Fusion and Mocha Pro are working great. I've installed both Cineform and the Avid Dnxhd codecs. Everything is working flawless except Vegas Pro 11. The mts files are straight from my Panasonic TM700. I reinstalled Vegas several times and Windows is 100% up to date. It's also doing it with some mov files. Either the entire video is green or the first couple frames are green. Also the trimmer window does not work.

If GPU acceleration is on, try disabling it. See #4 in this post.

It's also doing it with some mov files.

If turning off GPU acceleration didn't help with that, try Quicktime 7.7.9 if you haven't already.

You shouldn't need additional codecs to read Panasonic TM700 footage in VP11.

What do you mean by "the trimmer window does not work."?

You can't scroll thru the video and pick in and out points and create subclips. It doesn't even play in the trimmer window.

Isn't Vegas 11 Pro 32 bit?

Isn't Vegas 11 Pro 32 bit?

And 64 bit.

I'm using the 64 bit version. All I did was a fresh install of Windows 10 because of a new motherboard and CPU.

Sounds like something is corrupted with your Vegas or Windows installation. Try working through this: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-troubleshooting-crashing-and-stability--104785/

Thank you Nick. My problem was I wasn't running the latest build of Vegas 11 Pro. Apparently my disk build is in the 300's and the final build was 701. I downloaded and installed the latest build from your link and everything started working perfectly.
