importing .ts files in Vegas Movie Studio 11

my TV receiver records .ts files - I would like to be able to import them into my Movie Studio 11 but there is a "could not be opened" error message.

Windows Media Player can play it. VLC can play it. Sony Vegas: No.

Renaming to mpg does not help. What can I do, except using a 3rd party tool to convert ts to something else that Vegas can handle?

Download the trial version of VideoRedo TV Suite and run the files through "Quickstream Fix."

I could explain why this is necessary but suffice it to say .ts files contain lots of errors.
