Impoting video from Canon LEGRIA HFS 21

Hi, I am new to this software (Movie Studio 16 Platinum), 24hrs in and I can't find how to succesfully conect my video camera to this software. I am using an HDMI cable from the camera to my PC. I select Project, Capture Video and then either DV or HDV I still get the same message, Device Not Available. I have tried running the camera then starting the software and vice-versa but I get nothing. Any suggestions greatfully recieved.

Running Windows 10 Pro with an ASUS Prime Z370-ALL motherboard and a Nividia Gforce GTX 1060 6GB graphics card.

You cannot use an HDMI cable hookup for what you are trying to do. A better way is to remove the SD card and stick it into your computer, copy the video files from the sd card to a folder of your choice on your computer, then load those video files from that folder into Movie Studio using the Add Media option (in expert mode).

If you have video files in the internal flash memory of your Canon camera, then you can use the HDMI cable to hookup to your computer, copy the files from your camera to a folder of your choice on your computer, then use the Add Media option of Movie Studio (in expert mode).

George, shouldn't John be using the camera's USB connection with a computer not HDMI?

To me it sounds more logical because when the Device Explorer does recognize the filetype, also files that have a total size beyond the possible filesize on that card, these files will be put together to one file in stead of 2,3,4, or more depending on the lenght of the take.

Thanks for all the advice. It seems to work well just down loading the files from the camera using a USB connection. Now to master 2 displays......

Maybe worth reading the "Using the Device Explorer" article in online Help and this old thread.
