Introductions. All that. And question about license...

Hi there.

I've used Vegas since before Sony bought it. If there was actually a time before Sony bought it. That alone will age my timeline with the application as it's evolved. I enjoy it. It's still my go-to for quick edits, which is about all I do.

I am proficient in Premiere and other timeline editors, but Vegas has become increasingly accessible over the years and remains the fastest for me.

Anyway. I was pleased to find that I received a license for Vegas Pro 23 with my new Core Ultra laptop purchase, but I'm unsure how it works.

I have checked with support, and they verified that my license is active. However, I still receive a message every time I open the app stating that the license will expire at the end of the month.

Does this mean I'm on some sort of monthly plan, as I think? Does the program cease to function completely at the end of that monthly period, or just certain online resources such as stock footage, etc.?

If the former, I will find other arrangements to use the tool.

If the latter, then that's fine, as I don't use any online resources other than forums and produce all of my own stock footage for any given edit.

Back in the "good 'ole days," I simply paid for a DVD, and I owned the Vegas Pro program. And I didn't mind buying a new DVD or paying for the upgrade DVD to stay up to date. I don't think that's how it works anymore, but I could be wrong, so please be so kind as to offer any insights you can.

I do hope Vegas has not gone "full Adobe." Alas, what a shame that would be.

Thanks in advance, happy to meet the community otherwise.

@h0mn0cu7u5 You need to go back to support for clarification as I doubt any of us forum members have come across this situation and hence can advise you.

Personally I wasn't aware that VP was being given away with any laptops.

Hi. Thanks for the reply.

To clarify, the Vegas Pro 23 license was apparently due to the inclusion of a latest-gen Intel Core Ultra CPU in the laptop and not the laptop itself.

I confirmed that when redeeming the Vegas Pro license, where the redemtion process was handled via the Intel website.

As far as the license type, I have? I still have not confirmed. I emailed support, and they claimed that all was well with my license, stating it was a full, registered license. They even went so far as to clearly state in the email, "You are not using a TRIAL version."

However, I still get a "your license will expire in xx days" message each time I start the application.

I've enjoyed working with Vegas Pro 23 over the past couple of weeks; I'm coming from a much older version, and so the new interface and other features (codecs, GPU acceleration, etc.) are quite nice. Especially with newer equipment like the i9 14th gen CPU and RTX 4090 in my main desktop.

So I am waiting until the "XX "day license countdown is up to see where I am pointed for further licensing options. I'm guessing it's some sort of monthly sub thing.

I'm hoping there is a license for this version that I can simply purchase and it's activated "for life" as I have no need for feature upgrades; my editing process is very simple and well-suited to this latest version, and I'll need no future updates for a long time.

Best regards,

~h

Thanks for the information. I assume I'll be directed towards the same page when the license clock stops ticking in a week or so. Meanwhile, I'll explore those options you linked to.

Primarily, I'm keen to see what happens at the countdown endpoint, especially since support has clearly confirmed that I have an active license.
