is Boris FX Sapphire offer for black friday will work in Vegas 18 ?

Marty74 wrote on 11/25/2019, 6:38 PM

Hello,

i ask this question because i saw this problem before with other users.

in short, the plugins offered with a purchase of vegas is only working for the "actual" version of Vegas. the licence doesn't cover future update and are not entitled to any offer from the thir party company. that's what i read here and there.

since this morning, a black friday offer is available on the update of vegas, Boris FX Sapphire 2020 Render Unit is offered.
i'm still on my Vegas 16 Pro version, does that mean that the offered Saphire will only work with Vegas 17 and not with any future version of vegas ?

Thank you !

Typically that only applies to plugins included as part of a bundle, not discounts on purchasing the plugin. You should be fine to purchase, it should still work on future versions of Vegas.

OK, sorry, I thought this was in reference to Boris being on sale by itself. If it is a bundle with Vegas, chances are it will be bound to that version.

To me the extras in these offers look like a part of the bundle as the extras are coming with VEGAS and are not purchased from the 3rd party plugin providers at a discounted price.

yes, it was the same with the previous update i purchased for Vegas 16, so certainly the same issue. so i'll wait, other issue right now than using money to update to V17 which seems to be buggy as hell (and anyway i still have a Nvidia GT640, i'm afraid the new GPU feature will be useless with that ? as it seems to use the new creator nvidia driver, and my Gt640 is not allowed to use them).

can't upgrade to a new card (i only have an old VGA CRT screen blocked in 1152*864/75hz (using vegas in this resolution is a nightmare... :( ) but can't change... (i'm suffering from oversentive hearing, and didn't found yet a computer LCD/LED screen which make absolutly ZERO sound from the screen / backlight / power supply), don't know if it's exist, i'm searching a solution since 2010 and i'm tired...

Vegas 17 isn't giving me any more grief than 16 did. That said, your system definitely does not meet the minimum requirements to run it.

As for the screen, have you tried OLED or full size LED/LCD TVs? Odd that you only hear those screens, I tend to hear the CRT screens, especially right after turning them on.

Also, DVI and HDMI can be adapted to VGA, so you should still be able to use that old monitor with a new card.

ok so i'll do the update at one point thanks ! 16 is working ok.
magix did something very nice.. they allow vegas to use my intel i7-7700 graphic driver even if nothing is plugged on the video output (my motherboard has no VGA output so that's why i use the nvidia VGA output.
so that's the one i use, instead of nvidia.
it's more stable, and the render is better and more faster ! i know about the requirement, but it's working ok, it's painful but i can live with it.
I can do my edit with it, love vegas since so long, i'm a fan of the workflow even if it has his up and down, it' still better for me than any other video editor i tried. (you can see what i do with it on the Url in my signature, it's just music videos).

i'm afraid to be off topic, hope it's not an issue. no i didn't tried oled screen, too much expensive (i'm a disabled person, so don't have a lot of money) and no oled is available yet for computer. i know since it's exist that it can be a solution due to the different way it's working than LCD/LED.

I have a full size LCD serie 5 samsung tv from 2008 next to me. the tv is ok to watch tv.
but it made noise when a zidoo android media player is plugged in it (so never used it :().

did noise with other stuff too like the Tv box from my internet provider, once plugged on the tv make me a crazy amount of headache (it's one of possible side effect (not everybody suffer from chronical headache with it) of hyperacousis (oversentive hearing official name).

i'm fortunate there is no noise with my old PCH A200 media player, I use it to check my edit as the CRT is so bad :(. (actually dying, and didn't found a new one to replace it :( ).

so each time i must try something i must call a friend with nice ears to test if it's not making any noise. so far i'm blocked...

as i'm as well half deaf, that's mean i don't hear the sound which make me headache and pains, so it's very difficult to find a solution.

i don't hear the noise made by screens, i have pains, so i know that when the pains are at full volume, a noise is there... even if it's very very low volume, depending of the frequency it can be a big problem.

example ? my neighbour installed since march an air conditionner. very silent except that the machine is doing a vibration to the wall, generating a resonance in his wall, that i share with him, and it make a 500hz sound in my flat, and kill my ears .. :(

the CRT i have is a model which , i'm very fortunate, doesn't make noise at a point it hurt me. it's an old LG 775FT. and the sound it make is very soft, low in frequencies and very low in volume so it doesn't hurt me.

I tried other CRt, a a sony trititron was making awful noise. tried a 21" 4/3 compaq P1000 something , no noise too ! but the one i had died in 2012 :(.

so it's not the technology, it's just i'm lucky, this model doesn't hurt me. i tried many LED screen, actually i have one behind me, an Asus LED 24" Asus VG248QE. it hurts me, so can't use it, but not as much as the one i tried before, a Benq VW2245Z..I took the benq because of the exernal powersupply so i could put it in an another room "i have hope" but the backlight was making a hell of a noise. horrible. at 85hz, it was making a bit less noise than 60hz... but couldn't do more test with it i had to send it back.

so to answer you, i wait a friend to come at my home to plug my computer to the tv and see if it make noise or not.
the popcorn hour A200 was making noise on the tv, i was not understanding why i had so much pains while watching tv, and someone was here "wow you don't hear this sound ?" "no, which one ?"
"the TV !", "What really ???"

but i succeded to stop it. no matter how much luminosity or backlight setting i used, it was making noise, especially when the screen was going dark on the picture of the movie.. then , i changed the color range of the media player from 0-255 to 16-235 and then ALL the noise completly stopped. so i had hope and did the same with the zidoo unit but it changed nothing. i tried the zidoo and the A200 on the tv of my mum (More recent, a Samsung LED TV from 2016) and both unit make noise. couldn't use them at all.

i have the same issues with smartphone :(

Speaking about VGA converter from HDMI / DVI , I tried that and it's not working. it's making the picture to be output only at 60hz, but my screen only work at 72/75hz without flickering.
i tried to find an active converter who could output something at 72/75hz, but i never found it :(.
they all send a 60hz frequency so my screen shut off with a "out of range frequency" message error.

there is certainly a solution out there, but it's difficult and never found it , not yet.

can't buy a screen, try it, if it's making a noise, sending it back to the seller, then buying an another one to try etc... sorry for the long story, you're a moderator, feel free to edit or erase it. thanks for reading.

hope there is a solution out there. how i got this illness ? 25 years ago, i'm an ex professional musician (pianist), and got an accident on stage because of too loud sound on the stage.

Sounds like you need ear plugs. Maybe some hearing aids that will let the frequencies you want through while blocking the harmful ones.

i'm suffering from this illness since 25 years, that's mean that i know (almost) everything about it (and it's very little as nobody know nothing about it).

what you tell is not possible. (if not, it would be too easy lol).

- Hearing aids are not compatible with oversensitive hearing. (same with blocking noise based headphones)

- same with ear plugs (wearing earplugs make the symptoms growing up) etc... there is actually no solution except finding a screen which make no noise. most of the people suffering from this problem have the same issue. some of them had to stop using computer completely..

but thanks for the try ;)
