Good questions, Birk. If no one else will tell, time will.
My uneducated guess is (1) Y, (2) N. I'd love to be wrong here.

Assuming the product is running stably for you, 8 months since the last update is a very good thing!

So the much more important question to as is, "Is Movie Studio performing the job i need it to do?" If your answer is yes, then what's the problem?

@vkmast,

Glad that you said, "is (1) Y, (2) N. " instead of (1) Y OR (2) N. In some universes, it would be (1) Y AND (2) N. The joys of physics and video editing. :)

In case no one here has seen the latest statistics the sales of cameras are down, yet Sony is bringing on a lot of video power in its latest camera (still/video hybrids). Given that the camera market is down 50% from its peak, I would think that a slowing of the new version releases would come to the supporting software. This fall or next I think you will see a Version 14 that is even more attuned to the 4K world, soon to be (Panosonic is aiming at 2020) 8K world.

I currently think that SMS is perhaps the best cost/performance software I own - and yes I do subscribe to creative cloud. If they quit producing a SMS product I'd go Vegas because the work flow is so similar.

Movie Studio 13 was released a scant eight months ago.
So why the drama?
Do you think Sony should release a major upgrade any time its users start to feel itchy?

I got an e-mail from SCS on Jan 16, 2014 informing that Movie Studio 13, Movie Studio Platinum 13 and Movie Studio Suite 13 are "here".
Movie Studio 13 and Movie Studio Platinum 13 were last updated on Dec. 12, 2014 to builds 190 and 942/943 respectively.
A "Search" shows that several users of versions 13 including the OP have come across "features" they feel need fixing.
I don't see a drama here.

Oh, how quickly we forget.
MS Platinum 9 was with us for almost two years without an update if I remember, and its AVCHD and Quicktime handling was all but unusable, along with most portable and pocket device formats.

Instead of apocalyptic forecasts, we developed workarounds until MSP 10 was finally released. I even wrote lengthy tutorials about that particular version.

I consider MSP 13 to be a blessing since those days.

I wonder that Sony won't wait until Win10 is in the hands of the Public - to give final tweaks to the next SMS version.

I just hope that Graphics-Cards will be able to improve Render-times - I find the purchase / selection somewhat tedious/confusing, esp. as here in UK not all the cards keep the same numbers - this may be because of 50Hz sync issues. Indeed I wonder why Sony doesn't market Graphics cards - so we know how this will improve things....

My next PC ( after Win 10 settles ), will be 64-bit but I'm uncertain about the choice of Graphics card.

I'm uncertain about the choice of Graphics card.

There are many good graphic card(GPU) discussions on the Vegas Pro forum. Search/check them out.

I have 13 but continue to use 11.
I'm hoping for an update or new version to return the 11 interface that was taken away in 13.
That 11 interface should at least be an option to override the "toy" interface in 13.

Yes. Movie Studio Is Dead. And Sony Killed It.

I bought version 13 and saw that Sony has wasted tons of screen real-estate by making it a touch screen edition.

So I bought a box set of version 12 off eBay to downgrade to a version that still makes sense. But paying twice hurts, Sony.

When version 12 no longer does the job, or gets left behind on current hardware or OS, I'll look for a slashed price version of Vegas Pro.

And if Sony has managed to kill Vegas with Catalyst, there's always the free edition of Resolve, or Lightworks Free.

What amazes me is there's not even a glimmer of an indication that anyone prefers to edit-by-fingerpainting. Yet they're still quite happy to screw their loyal user-base.

@Bnby,

>>>...I'll look for a slashed price version of Vegas Pro.<<<

If you've chosen to "receive email about Sony Creative Software products and services" in your Email Preferences (My Account), check if you've got the following offer.

"Ever want to go pro? Now's your chance. Upgrade from any Movie Studio package to Vegas Pro 13 or Vegas Pro 13 Edit, and save 50%! Only through September 30th.
Sherz wrote on 9/14/2015, 11:40 PM
I wonder if that was Sony's intention when they introduced the 'toy' interface in MS13 and compromised workflow. They secretly want to try persuade serious users to upgrade to Pro.

Apparently it is. Dead, that is.

That seems to be addressing the Catalyst vs Vegas Pro - but I think you will find that sony will have a consumer version (Movie Studio Suite may become Home Catalyst suite) but with there many products in the mirrorless and camcorder markets they will continue to have a consumer product is my bet.
