ISO Burner for BD

MTV wrote on 8/14/2012, 3:30 PM
I just upgraded to DVDA 5.2 and suddenly my ability to make BD ISO files is not available. The image writer doesn't even show on the burner drop down list. But if I try and make a standard DVD the ISO burner is listed. I never had this problem with 5.0 or earlier and could make ISO and AVCHD discs on standard DVDs. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is it known? I can't find anything about losing the ISO writer.

I uppgraded my DVDA to build 161 yesterday. Reasent years i have burned my discs in AVCHD format with a bitstream of 20mb/s on standard DVD. Real good quality. After uppgrading it is not possible anymore.A made the big mistake and deleted my old version of DVDA before testing the new uppgrade. Anyone got the same problem?

Thanks for your answer. So it's Sony trying to force my to buy a BD burner and the overpriced BD-R discs

rwj,
You might check if dvdastudio50.exe is the same as your old version and build (5.0 b128). But you should really check also other (free) options for AVCHD discs, if you consider the price/capacity ratio of BD unreasonable.

I did the same upgrade today and then I found your post.
I confirm: the options of disk capacity 8.5 and 4.7 have desappeared, so I can only create iso for BR 25G or 50G now.

I did not have any real good reason to upgrade except that I could not put more than 18 titles (pointing to AVCHD files) under one menu and I was curious to see if the new release was able to do it.
I will do a test and then I will try to go back to release 128 of which I still have the installation disk from the Movie Studio 10 Platinium suite.

I did not found any warning from Sony on this downgrading of capability.
This is not fair to the customers...did I missed something?

I may have missed several myself.
I don't think that SCS have informed of this specifically, though there's the SCS Knowledgebase article about it.

You might pay special attention to e.g. PeterDuke's comments in many of the above threads, esp. in the first one I listed.

Thanks vkmast

I will carefully read these posts.

I have finished my test and the issue I had with the number of titles in b128 is the same in b160, so now I will have to understand the b160 advantages and then decide if or not I go back to b128

thanks again

The actual number of title names per menu etc are governed by BD specifications...any software doing otherwise goes outside the boundaries of spec.

And for that matter, while a spec was considered for a time allowing AVCHD as unspecified deployed media- it was only finalized in the outcome spec to confirm to Blu-ray media. Hence Sony's decision to become aligned with the current spec is the right and correct one.
