Issues with the Sony Titles & Text

Dubbsman wrote on 2/3/2012, 6:20 PM
1. When you select Shadow Enabled VMS 11 crashed, started in 283, but confirmed still does not work in 293.

2. When you animate it works correctly biut the key frames appear to not be saved so after the project reloads animation is gone. I have confirmed still an issue in 293.

Is there any know workarounds for these issues, especially the 2nd one.

I find this interesting if I use the default text and enable shadow no crash, but if i use any other animated preset and enable shadow crashes rightaway.

Don't know if this will help but it might be worth having a look.

It seems to work sometimes and then crashes at other times. Definately needs a fix. I did also file a report with techical details.

I can confirm bullet point 1.

Worked in builds 247 and 256, but when I click that button in build 283 and 293 it crashes right away. Sent error report to Sony in both builds, so they have my info.

I've used the same PC for all builds, so no change in GFX-card or anything. Tried updating the gfx-drivers, but still same problem. Legacy text workaround works for me, but it's not what I want.

And for those that want tech details, I've got an Acer 5750G with GeForce GT540M gfx-card. But as I said, it worked in builds 247/256, so no problems with the setup.

I too updated to the new 293 build and crashed as soon as I enabled shadows, had no problem with original 256 build will probably uninstall and download from the box unless there is another way to go back to 256 build. Another issue is I don't have New Blue Titlier in media Generators but have them in transitions and media fixs, is this because my pc does not support 3D ?

The NB titler you need to get via download from NewBlue. Note that it is different than the one offered in the Pro verison (the VMS version lacks features such as undo). I know if you bought the download version, they provide with a link to it. Otherwise, check the NB website for the link. I also believe that a careful search of this forum will also turn it up.

Thanks so much for the link, it is exactly what I needed, I converted most of the stuff I was working with over to the legacy and it has worked around both issue. I been using VMS since 9.0, sort of feel like this version been the most buggy, oh well thats progress I guess :).

Again thank you, you really saved me a lot of time with this suggestion, never thought to use the legacy text stuff.

I'm using V8 HD Plat and have just bought V11

Is the legacy (V8) titling New Blue ?
I assume the crashes are caused by the new native Sony titling ?
Markk655 wrote on 2/7/2012, 8:51 PM
The NB Titling is new for V11. Same thing with the new Sony Titles and Text. The old version is now claled "Legacy Titles & Text" (or similar).

Thanks Mark. Which Titling causes the crash ?
D7K wrote on 2/8/2012, 5:09 PM
ADB - its the new Sony Titles and Text NOT legacy version.

Just upgraded to V11 and first time I used the new titler to add shadow it crashed. Loaded it on another pc and it crashed so I do hope a new release soon from build 293 is in the pipeline. Back to the legacy text for now

New Blue TitlerEx also caused a crash on my first test.

Check that your PC meets the specs. It relies heavily on GPU.
ADB wrote on 2/11/2012, 3:31 AM
Thanks Mark but I have a new PC and it meets them easily.

Several previous threads (see further down) here testify that the NewBlue relies very much on the GPU and the correct driver. Have you checked if your drivers are updated? I don't have the Suite version of the 11 Platinum, but since recently updating my GPU drivers even NBTPro (as a trial since I have The VPro 11) seems to work in 11 Plat.
See jetdv's post in the thread below.

As you can see from another post, besides Titles & Text, the key frames are not saved also for Stereoscopic FX. I hope that somebody reported that bug.

ADB - I'm using a card with 1 Gig (which I allocated all to video in VMS11. In order to get the TrueBlue Titler to work well I close my preview window and use the TB window. Works well then.

Check your CPU usage and you will see that only one core is being used and that one pretty close to 100%. Then check your GPU and you'll see its under heavy load. I use an AMD card and they have a good app for checking the performance (MY 6 core is also AMD).
