Just Bought Vegas Pro 16 - Couple Of Questions...

Liberty610 wrote on 1/23/2019, 11:36 AM

Hey everyone.

As some of you may have seen from my thread the other day, I have purchased Vegas Pro 16 Edit. I am currently on the latest build which is 361.

I had some not so great experiences with certain versions of Vegas under Sony's umbrella. I have been enjoying Magix's version 16 so far, as it runs buttery smooth on my Threadripper 1950x machine (through my testing and playing around with thus far). This is my first version of Vegas since Magix really took over.

So, here our a couple of questions I have so far, and I may just keep tacking on to this thread down the road. I have 32gb of ram installed. Now, I am under the impression that the dynamic ram preview settings in properties allows me to adjust how much ram I give to Vegas for tasks such as rendering and ram preview edits. I usually don't set this number any higher then 25gigs, so I can leave a little headway for Windows. Does the ram setting here boost render speeds much? And does the video preivew window being closed during rendering speed things up at all? I had other versions of Vegas that it helped a smidge with the render times if you turned the preview window off during rendering.

My next question is; where can I go to make the FX button appear on my video tracks? In previous versions I have used, the FX button and motion blu buttons where standard on each video track, but this one they are missing and I have to click on the track and then choose 'Edit Visible Buttons'. How can I make the FX button stay there? It seems that everytime I close Vegas and re-open it, I have to edit the visible buttons again.

Thanks in advance for any help/replies!

Re your "next question", edit all visible button sets as you need. Then View > Window Layouts > Save Layout As...

And it is better not to have several questions in the same thread.

Thank you for the helpful replies.

As far as several questions in the same thread, I apologize. Most other forums I goto ask that you try and compile as many questions in a single thread as possible.

Re: Dynamic Ram question.

Actually, your understanding of this settings appears to be backward. The setting reserves RAM for creating quick, temporary previews (highlight a section and hit SHIFT-B) of sections of timeline that won't playback nicely otherwise. It TAKES AWAY RAM from other parts of Vegas as well as the OS an other programs. Leave it at the default unless you have a good reason to do otherwise. A setting of 25GB would be huge, and overkill in my opinion. The setting has also lead others to have crashes, and it is not always accurate as a preview anyway. I prefer to use SHIFT-M previews, they are slower, but persistent and are accurate.

Oh! okay, thanks for the input. I was wondering what exactly the setting was for, because I noticed when i would increase it, during rendering, my ram usage would jump to whatever max setting I put that at. So I thought it had something to do with rendering times and what not.

I'll pull it back to the default setting than.

Another bit of help van Dyn RAM preview.
The dyn RAM settings are the best for the program as Vegas sets it after the installation and first use of the program.
And those settings are only for the use of the program and normal now an than previewing a smal part of the timeline ( a selected loop) at full resolution and framerate trough .
When you ( temporely) want to preview a bigger part you can anable more (also temporely).
See the helpfiles for the help inside the program

I tested this briefly and I'm not seeing this behavior in VP16 Build 361.

As @xberk states, I also haven't experienced the layout changing in build 361 yet, but have experienced it in previous builds and version.

However if you continue to get this, as @vkmast points out you can save your custom screen layout and when you do, Vegas will assign a keyboard shortcut, something like this 'Alt+D, 0', or 'Alt+D, 1'. I have my custom layout shortcut on a sticky note on my monitor for reference.
