Magix EULA for Vegas Pro - good for use on Desktop and laptop?

don-bauer wrote on 9/25/2016, 5:15 PM

I've read the EULA carefull but do not see if a Vegas Pro serial number gives 2 license seats so that an individual may activate the software on a main desktop editing computer and a laptop:

Using the serial number, you can activate the MAGIX Product for the number of Computers specified in the serial number; each Computer will be assigned a License Seat.

I am a solo business owner and have a main computer in my office that was built specifically to edit video. It is the only place I would consider doing 'real' work that requires a lot of horsepower. But when away - capturing footage - I do need the ability to do some of the basic groundwork of getting it into a project ... naming ... bin organizing ... maybe some coarse trimming.

I am really happy to see the work being put into Vegas Pro 14 and am willing to buy into the suite as a new user of the software ... but only if I can use the same software on my laptop. I can only one computer at a time. Having to buy two copies just doesn't fit my business model. (just as paying monthly to use Premiere didn't fit ... especially after just buying into the CS6 Suite)

According to MAGIX you can activate your license on any two computers at a time. Activating a 3rd will require deactivating one of the 2. So you can have it on a Desktop and Laptop at the same time without any problems.

Thank JR. So in their terms ... a serial number allows for activation of Vegas Pro on 2 computers. That's all I need.

igniz-krizalid wrote on 9/25/2016, 6:55 PM

Yeah Johnny is right, you can use one license on two computers simultaneously, your serial code is linked to your Magix account so before installing a 3rd you will need to deactivate one of them first, it is possible one deactivation per month though.

I wonder if previous versions will be affected by this same activation?

What happens with 3rd party plugins? Do they follow the main program licensing?

For example I use the Newbluefx $99 package with the Lens Correction plug-in. It's obvious this goes online more or less every time it is run, to check something. I would like to use Pro 13 (or 14, when the dust settles :)) on my desktop and also on a laptop when travelling.

MSP11 and 12 were fine (functionally; not sure about legally) with any number of installations up to about 5 for the main program, and unlimited installs for the two other progs (sound editor and DVD creator). But I was not using Lens Correction with these; that needs the Pro version.

That's entirely up to the 3rd parties. They each have their own terms and conditions.

Will your VASST fast apps etc be made available?  Currently VASST site points to "Buy from Sony" which redirects to ... nowhere. 😃

vkmast wrote on 9/26/2016, 2:42 PM

Log on to your SCS account and go to Purchase > Partner products.
VASST FasstApps do not work with the current MAGIX VEGAS Pro 14 AFAIK. They should work with the latest build of MAGIX VEGAS Pro 13. I'm sure JR will confirm what works.

Thanks vkmast!   Now if only i could find out how to buy Sony's (Magix?) sound loop and effects libraries... any ideas?

Probably still the same.

Yes, We are looking into making the VASST FastApps compatible with MAGIX Vegas Pro 14.

Yup, we are looking into our eCommerce options too right now since Sony is no longer selling our plug-ins and MAGIX does not sell partner products.

Lots to do that we hadn't planned for. :(

at least the additional software that is include in Vegas pro can be installed on a second PC
(i have installed Vegas Pro 14 installed on 2 laptops, no problems to activate and register)

WOW!!! Really? Like I said... lots we hadn't planned for.

Apparently they ARE selling partner products, just NOT VASST partner products. Hmmm... :(

I can't answer your question "why not?". I don't know why they are treating us this way. They also removed our Vegas Pro Production Assistant from the Vegas Pro Suite bundle. Why? I have no idea. I wish I knew.

Ok..now i am confused..again..Production Assistant is from VASST (never owned so don't know), if so..how come MAGIX site is telling version 3 is coming ?! Are you the owner of VASST ? then you should know that right....

Yes, Production Assistant was a commissioned work by Sony from VASST. It carries a Sony logo but the About Box says "Powered by VASST" with our VASST Software logo. All of the technology in it is from VASST.

MAGIX is continuing to sell Production Assistant and we are working on a version that is compatible with Vegas Pro 14 which is why their web site says that Production Assistant 3 is coming. They just aren't including it in their Vegas Pro Suite bundle anymore for some reason.

...and Yes, I am one of the principals at VASST. I do all of the development. There are 32 plug-ins in our current line-up and I wrote and support them all. ;-)

Confusing but clearer now yes :) But if you/VASST are working on a version which is compatible with VP14 they should mention (powered by) VASST to on the site and again in the About Box...right?

Or even why don't you/VASST do it without MAGIX? (as they treating not right and not VASST partners)

I'm confused. How could they include it? Version 2 isn't compatible with VP14 and version 3 isn't finished. Or have I misunderstood?

Even if it wasn't ready in time for the launch, it still could have been included in the deal and customers could have downloaded it when it's available.
