Major update from version 204?

Robert-Vincent wrote on 6/2/2021, 2:30 PM

I have movie studio 17 platinum. It says there is a major update available. I choose "update now", and it downloads a 496mb file "somewhere", but never updates. I looked for the update file, and cannot find it. I restarted the program, and still no update. I restarted the computer, and still no update. can someone please help me? where is this update file located? it is stuck on version 204.

downloads?

Thats the first place I checked. I also found an old post where someone had a similar issue as I. They mentioned to look in documents/magix dowloads/installationsmanager. Not there either.

I have the same issue. I downloaded while running MVS 17.0 build 204, it downloads, asks me if I want to update now or later. I choose now, and it closes program, then tells it can't update because the program is running! I exited and re-start thinking it would do, it but instead asks me if I want to update now, and then it begins downloading the same installer again. I can't find the installer . looked in the appdata local and roaming folders, looked in the download folder, looked in Program\MVS 17 folder, and can't find it. Not a very well designed update process!

Solved: I found if I redownload from within VMS, the update file does go into the \AppData\Local\Movie Studio Platinum\17.0 folder, and it will delete it if you restart VMS. What happens is if you say update now or update when the program closes, you will get the error that the VMS program is still running and won't install. So do not re-start VMS yet. Go to the above folder and look for VMSPEUpdate and run that installer. That fixes the issue. The next time you start VMS, it will delete that file, as it now has been installed. Otherwise, you will end up going into a loop of downloading and auto deleting,

I must be doing something wrong. I go to the update installer file in appdata/local/MovieStudioPlatinum/ and double click it before closing the program, I get the installer can't run because the program is running. If I close the program, I get the same message. Hints? Ideas?

@denniS-Carter check the Task Manager to see that there are no VEGAS processes running.

Note also the other options to download, e.g. the link here. (Also your MAGIX account or MAGIX Download Center)

Another big thank you to BobN2Tech. I hope there are some red faces at Magix!
