Media file goes straight behind everything else on the timeline

Let me get this clear. I've used Vegas Pro before. When I import a file (Vegas Pro) using CTRL+O > Then go to a folder > open a file; let's say an mp4 video, the file is automatically placed on the timeline where I have put on my cursor, you know this one: |

Now in Movie Studio Platinum, when I do the exact same thing, no matter what I do, the file goes just all the way back behind everything else on the timeline. So if I am working on minute 1 and the timeline is 2 hours long, the stupid file while importing goes all the way back behind the last file in the timeline. So I have to constantly drag the file back to the place I want it to be. I really hope there is a simple solution for this, it's really annoying as f.

Thanks in advance.

What version of MS? That's not my experience. I have v11 Plat and when I ctrl+O, the file goes where the cursor is of the selected track.

You may need to try to reset software to default settings. Be sure to see the window and place the checkmark to delete cached data. My MSP 12 and 13 seem after some time to start behaving erratically.

(MSmart, I didn't know you were that M!)

Sorry about that, Cheif!

I have MS Platinum 13.0 - I've used Sony Vegas Pro before and there it worked fine! After the trial of Sony V Pro, I purchased Platinum 13, and it didn't do the job there. Fecking hell, I'll try resetting all the settings..

What do you mean with behaving erratically? After you reset the software or before? I'll try your suggestion though. This is really driving me nuts, lol.

Before.

Note though that as of v 12, "Double-clicking media in the Explorer window now adds the media to end of your project on the selected track."

Your best bet in MSP 13 may be to expand the timeline and see that you drag the cursor between the events. Then with auto ripple on drag and drop the new file there.

The Help file section on Adding media may be partly still in the MSP 11 era. I guess you can't have everything correct as it says "Double-click a media file or Movie Studio Platinum project to add it to your project. The file is added to the Project Media window, and an event is created at the cursor position."

For me, Ctrl+O opens the same window as Project > Add Media in SMSP 13 (Project > Import Media in VMSP 11).
