Motion Blur Pixelation on Render!

Hello all!

I am having a very annoying problem that I hoped you all could help with. I am currently trying to render a video in Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 10.0. However, I am getting some annoying pixelation in my final video whenever motion blur occurs.

It shows this pixelation in the preview window, and it also shows it in the final render. Here's a picture of it pixelated in my preview window.

Here's that same shot in the source video (which is perfectly fine).

Does anyone know why this could be possibly happening? I haven't the slightest clue how to fix it. Thank you!

Is this your footage or is it something you ripped? If it is ripped, I'm afraid your video is already in 'delivery format' and it will be very hard to get rid of the blocks.

Most likely, increasing the bitrate of your rendering template/codec will decrease the pixelation. Nowadays, I set my bitrate to average 18Mbps, maximum 24Mbps (using the MainConcept AVC/AAC 1080p template). I don't think you will get rid of them completely, though, as this is typical of compression. Note: the higher the bitrate, the larger the rendered file will be!

As you are using an old version of Vegas, you may consider upgrading. I upgraded myself from version 10 to 12 (which I still use), and I must say the performance of Vegas increased noticably. With each new upgrade, Vegas' codecs get a bit better. It is nothing flashy, but in the end it affects the image quality.

Here is one of mine. Not many blocks, if you ask me. Shot in avchd 50fps 24Mbps with the GH3. I recently started shooting in the avchd format, contrary to what many bloggers suggest (they promote mov a lot, with a much higher bitrate). In my experience, avchd does a really good thing with fast movement. So next time you do some filming, consider avchd. Avchd is less suitable for intense color grading, though...

As Ivan says, you might consider upgrading. With MSP 10 I too had pixelation issues which I haven't had in later versions. The trial versions of 12 and 13 are available in Downloads / Trials and demos / All Vegas trials and demos on this site. You cannot buy v 12 direct from SCS though any more, but some online stores still have it at greatly reduced prices.

It is something I ripped. The input files were both MP4 files.

My version of Vegas has always been pretty hit or miss with MP4 files. I ended up using a video converter to make them into WMVs instead off of a hunch. Sure enough, they look and render perfectly fine in Vegas 10. I will definitely consider upgrading soon because it seems my codecs may be running a bit behind with the times. :)

Thanks for the help!
