Motion tracking with text in back of video

Roger Bansemer wrote on 12/10/2022, 2:05 PM

I'm hoping someone will create a tutorial on how to motion track with text behind the moving video footage using V20?
I've been able to struggle and accomplish it with prior versions but V20 seems to work a bit differently. I've tried over and over to accomplish it in V20 but with no luck.

There will probably be different ways, but I would do it this way.

My way is not possible in Vegas pro , (maybe in post but I don't have that ). I still have the old Hitfilm running

I would make a compositing shot, take out the tower with mocha separately and place it on a separate track above your regular track

And then a text track in between, think of it as 2 sandwiches with your text as salami in between

I've been fussing with the text behind an object using track motion and finally figured it out. I've put together a short video on how I did it using Vegas 20.

@Roger Bansemer Well Roger ,thank you for teaching me this.

Because I have Hitfilm and Boris Mocha for compositing I never searched in Vegas for sollutions.

I seem to forget what beautifull features this program has when you dig a little

Ps BeautifuIl location where you live

That's very good, if there was a Vegas Tutorial section this seems a worthwhile addition because as Wiew says people with other options don't use Vegas motion tracking, but worked perfectly here.

I tried using AI for this, I only used the default settings, and it looks really bad, what's more it took about 2 minutes , slightly shorter duration than your tutorial but you can obviously operate faster, Never had a perfect experience with AI masking, and with simple masking like this no reason to use it

if there was a Vegas Tutorial section

There currently is that. At https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/tutorials/ there is the "Upload Tutorial" button to submit a tutorial and if approved it will be published.

Alternatively you can click your avatar and then "Tutorial".

The thread moved to the VEGAS Pro Video section. Please note that the VEGAS Effects and VEGAS Image sub-forums are meant for discussions related to the similarly named VEGAS Post add-ons.

How about this oldie?

Wiew, don't forget that Mocha (the full version, not just the limited version included with Hitfilm) is available as a plugin for VEGAS, though VEGAS' motion tracking can handle most stuff on its own.

Systems:

Desktop

AMD Ryzen 7 1800x 8 core 16 thread at stock speed

64GB 3000mhz DDR4

Geforce RTX 3090

Windows 10

Laptop:

ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo 32GB (9980HK CPU, RTX 2060 GPU, dual 4K touch screens, main one OLED HDR)

@fr0sty

I have the full version of Mocha
It was a Black Friday deal together with Continuum about 2 years ago
I actually wanted to switch to Vegas Post this year because I don't like the new Hitfilm/Artlist package
But there is still a gap between Hitfilm and Post like the 3D Foundry camera tracker
And my old Hitfilm version still works with the Vegas implementationI use HOS to link my audio editor (Steinberg Wavelab) and my photo editor (Corel Paintshop Pro)
So I decided to wait a little till Vegas to closes the gap before I switch

@Reyfox Thanks for the oldie tip
