Movie Studeio 14 PlatinumTerrible Performance issues

kmcghee wrote on 1/29/2018, 12:44 PM

I downloaded the trial for movie studio 14 platinum and have been happy with the program options, workflow etc, and am thinking of buying it, however performance is terrible in the sense that any time I scroll up or down, left or right in the timeline, its laggy and choppy and annoying this extends to every editing movment from dragging clips to making transitions. The video preview on the other hand is fine unlike what most searched on performance lead to. And I get the occasional crash.

My computer is well above the specs: Windows 10 64 bit, i7-6700 3.4 ghz, 16 gb ram, 2gb video ram, Nvidea Geforce GTX 960 So I am not sure what else it could be, any one have suggestions? The build on the trial is 148

It sounds very odd. No matter which material, your pc should handle it without any problem on MS. As Cornico says, it's useful to know which kind of material you edit - specifically which formats. And of course once you start piling up effects performance degrades quickly even on fast machines - video calculations are seriously intensive.

If you're talking of run of the mill MTS or MP4 clips with no effects, it seems that there's something off with your MS installation, your Windows installation, or both.

To say, I'm currently editing a music video in full HD with a good deal of effects and dozens cuts with an old laptop much less powerful than your machine, and while if I select all clips the dragging is a little slower, it's still perfectly usable - to the point that (since I'm on a deadline) I decided to finish it up on this machine rather than use time on re-rigging the more powerful desktop. With similar projects, this latter one - which has similar specs to yours - MS doesn't break even a little sweat .

That might be a Quicktime issue. What infos about your footage gives MediaInfo (a freeware tool)?

Mod or mov? In another post here OP says they are mod?

As EricLNZ points out referring to another thread from the OP, he seems to have Canon FS 10 SD camcorder .mod files. That camera came with the Pixela software. I imported to computers using SDcopy with no issues.

How did you transfer or import those files to your computer or into Vegas MS, by copying from te card, by importing to VMS by the Device Explorer or by the Sony software that mostly was delivered at those cams?

A very good point.. maybe the OP is trying to read the files directly from the camera connected via USB?

I put the memory card into my external card reader and then copied and pasted the files, no imports. I see what you mean though, I will try taking some video and use a proper import and see if that changes, as well as taking some video not from that camera and see if that could be the problem.

So I don\t know, that being said I still and having trouble selecting the right render settings as in my other post, so if know what I sohuld use with this style video, please let me know!!
