Movie Studio 16 Not Running On Windows 10 - New Install

RayC76 wrote on 9/13/2019, 12:19 AM

I've been using Movie Studio for some time now and never had a problem like this. Because Windows 7 was being phased out, I decided to get a new Laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad P52S Windows 10 Pro with 32GB memory and 1TB HDD). Movie Studio 16 worked under Windows 7, but when I downloaded the Movie 16 build 142 (twice now) and install on the Windows 10 computer. All I can do is activate it (enter my SN and email) and then it just hangs with the Movie Studio 16 Flash screen. Progress seems to stop about 1/3 way on the progress bar. Task Manager shows 0% activity for Movie Studio. After about 15-20, I just kill the process. This isn't normal. See screenshot below:

There are no other programs running. I have restarted and uninstall and reinstall a couple of times. Is there a fix for this? Is there a work around? Any one able to run Movie Studio 16 under Windows 10 Pro?

Appreciate any help, comments, and/or suggestions. Thanks! Ray

Please try and see if the link here and the following comment help (modify advice as per your Movie Studio). This thread may help as well.

Thank you for your response. However, the program still won't load. I'm now stuck on "initializing external monitoring". I have tried different things - 1) Run as Administrator, 2) add /NODEXGROVEL, 3) Run under various compatibility mode Win7/Win8/No Compatibility, and 4) checked/unchecked Windows Presentation foundation Font Cache. I have reboot the machine each time between testing each scenario otherwise Movie Studio will not start. So right now, I have /NODEXGROVEL and this gets me farther, but I'm still unable to launch Movie Studio. Below is a summary:

Do you have any other suggestion? Thanks again.

You may need to go through the points in that link. Start with #18, 8, and 2. Pls read also the other linked thread.

Ok, first the GOOD NEWS. Movie Studio Launched!!! So Thank you for your help.

FYI, this is what I did:

1) I went to #18 and reset to default and checked the box as instructed. This didn't help.

2) I then went to step#8. I removed all external hardware - all HDD, two monitors, etc. The System launched! But I really want my external monitors to work.

3) I first plugged back my external HDDs. System Launched! Good.

4) I plugged in Monitor #1, System Launched! Good.

5) I plugged in Monitor #2, System Lauched! Good. This is too good to be true.

6) Then for the heck of it, I deleted out the /NODXGROVEL switch and the program launched!!

I'm guessing that I initially got in after Step #2 because the system then "register" something internally after completing it launch and therefore allow me to get in with all my external devices, but because I couldn't get in to complete the "final step" because of "interference by other hardware device". This is like a chicken and egg issue. I could be wrong, but that's what I think at least for now. The system is now as if it was a new install - no switches or compatibility settings.

Thank you Sir for your help!! Now I can play with my new computer.
