Movie Studio EOL - replaced with Movie Edit?

michael-harrison wrote on 12/10/2018, 1:42 PM

Has there been any official statement from Magix about the future of MS? The seasonal specials don't include MS and it seems to me that newer features (360 support for example) are in ME but not MS.

I've been a MS user for years and am not eager to switch but if all the development love is moving to ME I'll have to consider it in the years to come.

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

I cannot find that program in the list of 52 programs of Magix.
Where do I find that program? I never heard of it, so I'm very curious about it.

Well, it's right on the main page at magix.com and they have a holiday premium popup that shows up for it.

"Video Deluxe and Movie Edit Pro are the same program. Magix uses a different name for some European countries."

j-v is probably using his local magix.com/nl or /de site which (in Product finder) list Video Deluxe, whereas e.g. magix.com/gb and /us list Movie Edit.

OK thank you, probably you meant the Magix Movie Edit Pro

What did you think this "Pro" program is to go replacing the Studio version of Vegas, that has its own Pro version with the support option you were talking about? That VMS is not again available for a discount?
If so, you probably missed this on the Magix Vegas site

Michael - as far as us users are aware both product lines are continuing to be developed by separate product teams. With Vegas it's the team in the USA.

What other newer features than 360 support were you thinking of?

As for promotions, VMS Platinum recently featured in the Magix Cyber Monday Sale.

j-v - Magix Movie Edit Pro is actually a consumer level product. Magix's pro editor is Video Pro X.

Mainly that though based on past experience and a bit of paranoia most companies phase out purchased products in favor of having a single line.

I missed that.

Here's hoping they either keep both or merge them into a superior product.

Why do you think I wrote one time "Pro" and one time Pro? 😉
In my country they call "---" so-called.

Apologies I missed that. It is somewhat confusing that Magix use the term Pro in a consumer editor.

Mainly that though based on past experience and a bit of paranoia most companies phase out purchased products in favor of having a single line.

Corel have kept both Corel Video Studio (originally ULead) and Pinnacle so hopefully Magix will do the same. Merging the products would, I imagine, be a nightmare. Best to start from scratch ground up. I like some aspects of Movie Edit Pro but its lack of a Media Pane doesn't suit my workflow. But it's awhile since I looked at it and maybe it's changed.

You didn't state what other newer features you had in mind. Seriously, other than 360 support (which I consider a passing gimmick like 3D) what other features does VMS not have?. There are areas where I'd like to see improvement, and bugs I'd like fixed, but I cannot think of anything else. No doubt 8K will arrive in a few years but what else?

While I cannot reveal much, I can say that Movie Studio is very much still alive and in active development. VEGAS Movie Studio 15 was released at the end of February this year, and we released Update 3 of that product about a month ago. Rest assured, VEGAS Movie Studio will have new versions with many new features in the future.

That's good to hear and I hope management shares your optimism :-)

I've been a mostly happy user for several years (just have to remember to save frequently) and would hate to have to move to something lesser.
