Movie Studio losing ground to competition.

I've used just about every editor out there and when it comes to ease of use and power when editing, I prefer Movie Studio. Editing is clean and quick with all the key features at your fingertips. Every other editor in the price range seems sluggish or overly complex when trying to do simple edits on complex projects. However...

When it comes to effects and some higher end editing capabilities (like freehand masking, path creations and unique effects) Movie Studio is being left behind. The sad part of it, many consumers will be attracted to those apps that offer the extra and flashy features not understanding what they're losing in the simplicity of editing department. Sony loses potential customers because they are unable or unwilling to increase the value added features of the program.

FREE programs like Blender offer lots of power to those willing to invest the time to learn. The FREE hitfilm express program offers freehand masking and other such powerful tools and effects. Sony feels that it's a feature that simply must be withheld for its Sony Vegas Pro app.

It's time to make Movie Studio even more like Vegas Pro. Increase the features. Add more effects. Also.. changing the name to Magix Movie Studio seems kinda cheap... but I understand the reasoning. But.. can't they come up with a decent name for the app?

UPGRADE THE FEATURES. Vegas Pro and Movie Studio are starting to look weak and old. Hitfilm is coming on strong and Blender is getting easier and easier to use.

I still LOVE Movie Studio... but it isn't fun having to go to another program to do my masking and then render/return. I am tempted to just stay in the other program.

Looking forward to a new release and new features.

Judging by your later remarks you seem to know that MAGIX acquired the Vegas portfolio from Sony, so why do you think it's Sony that's losing from now on?

Some users have received emails ( Search the forums) regarding forthcoming releases. Those emails imply that the next versions will be named VEGAS Pro 14 and VEGAS Movie Studio 14.
Quotes:
"at the end of September 2016, you can look forward to the most advanced version of VEGAS Pro yet![I]""
For me, the names are pretty decent.

@vkmast +1

Names don't matter. Features and function do. From the email, we already know that they'll be adding some new FX, multicam editing and travel route animation.

Personally, I'd love to see improve use of GPU during editing, rendering performance. I'd also love a way to be able to drag a picture (jpg, tiff, or even psd) or video directly from a Lightroom catalog to a Movie Studio timeline. That way I can take advantage of a media organizer together with my NLE.
