I have the same Kevin. Upgraded from VMS platinum 13 to VMS platinum 15, and now cannot import MTS video files.

Marco. wrote on 3/4/2018, 9:17 AM

Is your system online at that time?

3POINT wrote on 3/4/2018, 9:37 AM

I think we're talking about the same bug as mentioned earlier in the general discussion thread. Just wait till the next update, which I expect soon (hopefully).

Marco. wrote on 3/4/2018, 10:12 AM

MTS files work fine for me in MS 15 but the codec needs to be licensed before so the system must be online when you first use such a file.

Mixza wrote on 3/4/2018, 10:29 AM

Thanks Marco. I've been with Vegas for years and never had to do that. Anyway what you're saying makes sense. Thanks I will give it a go.

3POINT wrote on 3/4/2018, 10:33 AM

Marco, I have the same problem also on my laptop (not on my desktop), VMS15 even crashes when trying to import AVCHD files. Also creating thumbnails takes hours.

vkmast wrote on 3/4/2018, 10:33 AM

Re additional activation of codecs, see point 10 here.

Mixza wrote on 3/4/2018, 11:27 AM

Okay VMS 13 imports mts files and works perfectly on my Win 7 box. Unfortunately 15 doesn't. Guess I'll have to wait for a new build.

Marco. wrote on 3/4/2018, 1:29 PM

@Mixza
As all the different MTS files I have available work fine in MS 15 – Could you share such a MTS file for download?

vkmast wrote on 3/4/2018, 1:34 PM

They work for me too in MSP 15. Interestingly, 3POINT says he has the problem on his laptop only, but not on his desktop.

Marco. wrote on 3/4/2018, 2:02 PM

It seems your problem is different from the one Mixza reported as he says he cannot import MTS files at all. This sounds like the codec would not work at all.

I also have long waiting times when trying to open a MS 15 project with lots of MTS files already in it. I just set up a project with 35 minutes length and 100 AVCHD clips in the timeline. Loading this project on my notebook takes one minute (if I open that project from an already launched and yet empty MS15).

But in general on my system importing MTS works fine in the sense it actually decodes video and audio of MTS files (both stereo and 5.1). So at least here on my notebook there is no MTS import problem but a problem with launching such projects.

Marco. wrote on 3/4/2018, 2:22 PM

Again - this seems to be a different problem, not the one Mixza describes in this thread. Maybe I'm wrong but I wait for an answer of him to see if in his case MTS files actually do not decode at all.

(By the way - I edited my post because the two minutes load time was caused by something different.)

3POINT wrote on 3/4/2018, 3:29 PM

Cornico, this is exact the problem I have on my laptop and which I already have reported on 28.02 in the general discussion. thread.

Marco. wrote on 3/4/2018, 4:25 PM

"The problem has nothing to do with MTS files"

Then this is the wrong thread because this one is about MTS, at least according to what the starter of the thread described so far.
Please open another thread for your certain problem or continue in that general thread if it was already mentioned there.
This very thread should be used to analyse (and maybe solve) Mixza's issue which is related to MTS (yet).

Maybe another question regarding this (and other posts)
Why are members with a M added on their profiles again and again trying to deny bugs when they get reported so clear and with proof by many users? Tell me please. Or is it a duty for moderators on this forum?

Cornico - I've a "M' badge, and in the General Discussion thread I've agreed with you. Like you I'm pretty frustrated with the difficulty in using MS15 but it's a bit rude of you to suggest moderators have a duty to deny bugs. The answer is No we have no such duty.

As for the beta testers I don't know who Magix use as their testers but I wish you were one of them as you were onto this problem very quickly.

Hi Guys, This is very simple. I'm an experienced videographer and editor, and one of my prosumer Canon HD camcorder's saves the files to MTS format. I started using Sony Movie Studio Platinum 10, after being unhappy with Premiere Pro. I love the workflow and ease of use that VMS platinum offers. I have ALWAYS been able to import MTS files into Vegas, until I purchased version 15. I'm sure the problem will be sorted. Until then I have work to do and will revert to using 13. Chat soon.

Unfortunately that does not help establish the reason for the problem, which could be a generic problem with opening files in VMS15, or a specific problem with your MTS files, or a problem with your particular system.

It would be really very helpful if you could share a sample file on a cloud service such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, mega.nz, wetransfer.com or mediafire.com

Mixza wrote on 3/5/2018, 2:57 AM

Will do asap

NickHope wrote on 3/5/2018, 4:25 AM

@Cornico Of course it might be a bug in VMS 15. That was one of the 3 possibilities I listed in my comment. It is unwise to make assumptions based on circumstantial evidence and I'm very much looking forward to a sample file so we can confirm the reason, rather than guessing.

Your comments about moderators are completely unacceptable, and I don't even understand the reason for them. We are not under any pressure whatsoever to deny bugs or be biased. It is also not part of our role to confirm bugs. I am very sure that Magix will have seen these postings and be working on a solution. We all want the same thing, which is a healthy future for Vegas software, and to help users here with their issues.

Hi All,

Here's a DB link to one of my MTS files

https://www.dropbox.com/s/dl8b15ly2z4943t/00041.MTS?dl=0

Marco. wrote on 3/5/2018, 5:33 AM

Thanks for this file.

Could you further describe what exactly happens when you try to use that file (it works fine for me in MS15)?

Does same issue appear with video files different than MTS, just like MP4, MOV or AVI?

Mixza wrote on 3/5/2018, 2:43 PM

Hi All, I tried what Cornico suggested, and VMS 15 does open MTS files in my other locations / folders. It however will not open my latest MTS files. (Even though I copied them to another location on my desktop.) I am seriously confused now.

EricLNZ wrote on 3/5/2018, 4:44 PM

Confirm the file is okay for me in MS10. Looks similar to my own Canon HFG10 mts file even down to being 25fps and interlaced. So Mixza you have something strange going on.

Unfortunately because it's just one short file I wasn't able to check for slowness in loading/creating files which is the problem several of us are experiencing.
