Movie Studio will not render

Ive just recently purchased the education edition of Sony Movie Studio and have just begun on my first video project with it. The software appears to recognise the avi file that I selected (I have successfully imported it and played the video and audio) but I cannot render it. After importing the video, I placed it in the trimmer window where I did some trimming. After this, I placed it in the timeline and positioned it 'from the cursor position' (by the way, it's just one clip.) But when I went to the last step (saving the file to my harddrive) all the sub-options seem to work like selecting the file type and the folder where I want the file to be saved, but the 'Render' button is non-clickable / transparent. Is there some vital step that Ive missed? Throughout the editing process, some annoying pop up messages keep appearing warning me about some issue to do with a proxy or something like that - I don't suppose that has anything to do with the problem of not being able to render?

Hopefully these messages that keep coming up on the screen will give a clue.

"An error occurred while creating a proxy file for a stream. An error occurred writing the file. Make sure you have write access to the file / folder and that there is enough free space."

"An audio proxy file is being built. You can cancel this operation by clicking on the cancel button on the left side of the status bar. Working with certain types of media files with particular audio compression schemes can be inefficient and slow. To compensate for this, an audio proxy file is created for those formats to dramatically increase the performance."

Despite these messages, the video and audio play fine in the timeline.

By the way, this avi file, and several others that I intend to edit, were created by a Canopus ADVC 100 analogue to digital converter box. In the past, I have used Window Movie Maker and Ulead Video Studio to successfully edit and render files created by this device. If I can't get Sony Movie Studio to render these files, then I'll go and grab another copy of Ulead from eBay. Ulead may be cheap and have it's limitations but it does the job.

It's your user permissions, or an antivirus program running.
Post your system specs, and render properties.

Hi there. I'm on a PC running Windows 7, 32 bit. Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-2400 CPU @3.10GHz, 3.30GHz. RAM 4.00GB (3.01 useable)

Umm.....how would I render properties?

A silly Q from me. Did you click the arrow to see the options in the pull-down menus and select a template?

And post render properties/settings.

Oh gosh, silly me. I didn't realise those little arrows were clickable. It didn't mention that in the instruction manual that I was referring to. I just assumed those arrows were like bullet points lol. However, I did think it was strange that when I selected the file type initially, I couldn't see any specific details about the type of file (like fps, resolution etc.)

I have now successfully rendered the file.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
