Please note that the new Movie Studio product line (versions since #17) is a MAGIX product based on Movie Edit Pro (name changed now to Movie Studio).

Note also that VEGAS Movie Studio was in essence a "light" version of VEGAS Pro, so if you upgrade to the Pro version, you don't have to learn a totally new program. I'd suggest you test the VEGAS Pro free time-limited trial. The VEGAS Edit version is actually VEGAS Pro without some extra features (see the product pages at vegascreativesoftware.com).

I had to go back and re-check, finding that I had in fact thought that VEGAS Edit was one of the many new names for a Movie Edit Pro variant. It warrants further looking!

FayFen, that is quite a reasonable question! I have upgraded versions of the software "occasionally" since MS8 as I like to keep up to date with software in general.

MS16 appears to be at dead-end for this line of software so I was considering moving to something current so that if I purchase an add-on (like Neat Video) then I know it will work.

I don't find the interface of MS16 terribly intuitive (or I just forget) so am open to switching products if it is better.

Staying with what I have is definitely an option and I may well end up doing just that. It is certainly the cheapest alternative.

The best software is the one you know and experienced not a new one. VMS16P is no where near a dead end and surly not for your type of materials, that indeed reached their own dead end. VMS16P is what the doctor order, you just need to learn it a bit more if you want a different look for your projects. It's the stuff between your ears and not the bells and glitter of up to date software to make them interesting.

Is there something that you are specifically missing with your VMSP16? If it is doing everything you want, then surely there is no need to change to another NLE. If you want to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading, and you find the GUI of VMSP16 unintuitive, then Vegas Pro will probably not be an option because VMSP was a cut down version of Vegas Pro. This means that you will likely need to use the trial versions of other NLEs to find which other NLE suits you best - but do watch out for those NLEs that solely use a subscription model. If you stop the subscription, so stops your access to the NLE.
