MS 15 Platinum or Vegas 15 Pro Edit?

Can I please get opinions as to whether to upgrade to MS 15 or plunk down more for Vegas 15 pro edit? What advantages (or disadvantages) will there be to moving up to Vegas 15?

My primary interests are in processing 4K UHD video via HEVC to Vimeo and leveraging any performance gains there are to be had from a Quadro P4000 GPU.

I am not a high end editor and don’t use a lot of 3rd Party plug ins or standalone (mainly just ProDad Mercalli standalone).

I have a relatively good system (the GPU, 24GB memory (albeit DDR3 1600), SSD). My processor is the most significant pinch point. It’s an Intel Quad Core 3.2 GHz from 2009. The 4K UHD comes from a Sony digicam and a GoPro.

I’m more than willing to pay the extra cost if there is a good reason to do so. Any thoughts (however off the cuff) would be much appreciated.

When you're not a high end editor, why spend money on high end editing software? VMS15 has enough to offer, the same output quality and almost the same features as VPro15. By the way, from both versions you can download a 30days trial and find out yourself, which version suits you most.

VMS 15 Platinum to be exact, the basic VMS 15 has restricted features.

The Platinum version, ofcourse. The basic version I would never recommend.

Yes . . . I agree. Platinum seems to be the version that is the closet comparison. But I am unable to find any direct comparison between Vegas Pro Edit and Vegas Movie Studio. What am I getting for my money with VPE, or more precisely, what am I giving up by staying with and upgrading within VMS Plat.

I am mostly thinking about the ability to do things more efficiently and/or elegantly (e.g. multi-cam editing), performance issues (will one render faster or in some way better than the other) and useful capabilities (e.g., greater variety of input, output codecs, etc.)

My thinking is that most people are in one camp rather than the other, and that’s why you don’t see a lot of meaningful comparisons or a discussion of why one might want to plunk down more for VPE.

I’m not looking for a comprehensive list. Some key differentiators that come to mind would be useful.

"Some key differentiators" from this (a bit outdated) comparison of versions 14. You can update it by studying the Pro and MS comparison tables on the product pages. 3Point's suggestion to do test drives with both is recommended. With MSP 15 you should probably wait for the next update/build.

Can you please elaborate? Bugs?
