Multiple Split Screens?

Deb-Demers wrote on 2/3/2020, 11:52 AM

Several other video/movie making programs out there now have the ability to make multiple split screen videos by choosing a template with various shaped views and then drag/drop your videos into them.  I've upgraded to Movie Studio 16, but don't see that option as a feature.  Is it there and I just don't see it or is this something that may be a future add to the program?   I am aware that you can do a dual split screen in Movie Studio and use the Event Pan/Crop and Masking, but I like the idea of having the templates to just drag/drop into. Or can custom made templates be made and added to my folder?

If you upgraded than maybe you know if VMS ever came with any templates at all?

Whilst there are no templates fitting your requirements VMS Plat 16 has PIP and Crop video FX which can be added to Event (clip) or track making it easy your create your own.

As I said in my post, I am aware of PIP and Crop. Not at all the same as having various shaped templates to drag and drop multiple videos (2, 3, or 4 videos). Since this is a feature I see in various other movie/video programs, I was kinda hoping that Vegas would have upgraded to include such an item. As it is, I am going to continue to use my VMS 15 instead of 16 because the upgrade did away with an important feature (for me) and that is the animated thumbnails of the transitions and FX items. In 16, now all you get is an index list AND a whole lot, a LOT, of the presets are no longer there! So, I will use my 15 to make my videos but will use 16 to render because the rendering on 16 is way, WAY faster than 15.

FayFen: No, the previous (and new) versions did not have those type of templates. But since multiscreen templates are available in so many other video editing programs I was hoping there was a way to add them to VMS. I would be willingly happy to pay for an add-on if that would get some of those templates and more.

@Deb-Demers see if the presets of your Video FX and Transitions are in their windows

Can you give examples of the VEGAS presets from MSP 15 that are not in MSP16?

I do have screen shots of two items I had questioned Tech support about. I can upload tonight. However, I was told by the tech that the "missing" items were due to a change in the programing and that was the choice of the developers to do away with them.

@Deb-Demers OK, thanks. No need to upload as the case is clear. I have in MSS 16 e.g. about 90 main presets (with many "sub-presets") in Transitions, more than enough for my purposes. All of them came with MSP or MSS 15 or 16.

Actually, alot is "missing". As I said, the tech said they changed the format as part of the developers decisions. Instead of having animated thumbnails to see the premade templates, all there is now is index. And alot of the templates are now missing. See example below:

Are any Presets actually missing? They are just not as easily seen without the animated thumbnails. I no longer have VMS15 installed to compare with VMS16 but I haven't found any that aren't there when you go into the preset dropdowns of individual FX.

I'd tend to agree with @EricLNZ. It seems you also see the dropdown list of Animation Presets in T&T, so you are not suffering from this issue that some users have encountered.

As I mentioned, the tech I spoke with said it was the decision of the developers to do away with a lot of the ready made templates and the animated thumbnails -- going to just an index list. So, instead of seeing the Barn Door transition with thumbnails showing open or close or push up or push down or A first versus B first, etc. , now you have to look at an index list that show text of the description instead SEEING it in action before you choose it. I find that to be a BIG step backwards and certainly not nearly as user friendly. This is the comparison (as can be seen in the pictures I attached above): In 15, under Adding Text I have 8 Folders and in each of those folders are 8-15 different premade templates. So we are talking about 100+ premade templates. In 16, the Adding Text folder has ONLY EIGHT premades. A HUGE difference!!
